KMAT 2018 Exam Pattern

Karnataka Private Post Graduate Colleges Association (KPPGCA) will release the notification and KMAT 2018 Exam Pattern on its official website www.kmatindia.com.

KMAT 2018 (Karnataka Management Aptitude Test) will comprise of multiple choice questions (MCQs) i.e. objective type questions.

  • Each question will have 4 alternative responses suggested as answers, out of which a student must select the most appropriate one.
  • The medium of language will be English only.
  • It is a pen and paper based test i.e. mode of exam is offline.
  • Candidates will have to mark their answers on an OMR sheet.
  • The duration of exam is 2 hours (120 minutes).
  • The total number of questions asked in the entrance test will be 120.
  • The question paper will be divided into 3 sections- Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Quantitative Ability and Logical Reasoning.
  • Every correct answer will be awarded +4 marks and negative marking scheme will be applicable.
  • The maximum marks a candidate can score is 480.

The syllabus will be of secondary school level. Questions will be asked from topics covered till class 10 of school. The difficulty level is said to be moderate.


KMAT 2018 Exam Pattern Highlights Table

KMAT 2018 Exam Pattern will give applicants an idea about what to expect in the exam. The details about various aspects related to the aptitude exam like the mode of the test, time duration of the exam, type of questions that will be asked in the test, marking scheme, total number of questions, etc. are given in the table that follows:

KMAT 2018 Exam Pattern in Detail

KMAT 2018 is a conventional pen and paper based test. The question paper will be available in the English language only. The exam will comprise of 120 objective questions to be solved within 120 minutes. The maximum marks a candidate can score in KMAT 2018 are 480. Aspirants must choose the most appropriate answer out of 4 alternative options.

   The question paper will be segregated into 3 sections- Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Quantitative Ability and Logical Reasoning. Aspirants can choose to attempt any section as they want. They will be required to mark their answers on an OMR sheet. There is no time restriction of solving a particular section within a limited time.    

Verbal Ability and Reading Skills: This section will test the applicant’s knowledge and proficiency in English language. The total number of questions asked in this section will be 40.

Quantitative Ability: This section will assess the basic mathematical ability of individuals. The total number of questions asked in this section will be 40. This section is considered to be relatively a scoring section and difficulty level for this section is class 10th level.

Logical Reasoning: The logical skills section is designed to evaluate the understanding of patterns from the data given and to test the visualization power of students. This section will comprise of 40 questions.

KMAT 2018 Marking Scheme

Aspirants must know the marking scheme in order to decide how to attempt the questions in the entrance exam. There has been no change in the marking scheme of KMAT 2018 and it is the same as it was for the year 2017. It should be noted that negative marking will be applicable for the test. The marking scheme is stated as follows:

  • +4 marks will be awarded to students for marking every accurate answer.
  • There will be penalty of marks, charged for marking incorrect or wrong answers i.e. negative marking is applicable. For every inaccurate answer, -1 mark will be deducted from the total score of candidates.
  • No mark will be deducted from the total score of the applicant for leaving a question blank or failure in attempting it.
  • The marking of two options by candidates will be considered as a wrong answer and negative marking will be applicable accordingly.

KMAT 2018 Exam Syllabus

The syllabus for KMAT 2018 is based English, Mathematics and Logic of secondary school level knowledge. It will be as decided by KPPGCA for every section. Aspirants must make sure that they follow the right syllabus to prepare well for the exam. The section wise syllabus is given as follows:

Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension

This section will assess the grasp an applicant has on the English language. The test paper will comprise of questions based on a given passage. Through this section, an individual’s vocabulary, grammar and comprehension skill is tested. To answer the questions, they must comprehend the contents of the passage and utilize correct phrases, words and expressions.

Quantitative Ability

This section of the exam assesses the applicant’s ability to solve numerical problems with accuracy and speed. The questions in this section shall be of matriculation standard. It will include questions to evaluate how candidates can work with numbers, do numerical calculations and understand various arithmetic problems. To ace this section, they must have a good understanding of basic mathematical concepts.

Logical Reasoning

    This section will determine an applicant’s ability to think accurately and quickly. Students can expect questions on diagrams and figures as also verbal reasoning in this section. This section will also have a few questions about General Knowledge and Current Affairs. Aspirants are advised to read newspaper to know the various events happening around them. Questions about verbal reasoning and analogy will be asked.

Important Instructions for Candidates

All candidates must ensure that they follow some rules and regulations to maintain the decorum of the exam hall and to ensure that the examination proceeds properly.

  • Applicants must report to the test center at least 1 hour prior to the test.
  • The identity of students will be verified and they will undergo a security check.
  • They must bring the Admit Card duly completed with photograph and a valid photo ID proof, Black or Blue ball point pen and other required stationery.
  • They must ensure that they fill up the details properly on the question booklet.
  • Attendance will be taken by the invigilators present in the exam hall, on the attendance sheets. Candidates will have to put their full signatures against their corresponding roll numbers.
  • Individuals must enter their registration numbers, answer sheet number and question series number against their roll number in the sheet that will be provided to them in the exam hall.
  • To mark an answer on the OMR sheet, applicants must darken the bubble in the prescribed way otherwise it will not be considered.
  • No applicant will be permitted to create any disturbance inside the examination hall. Any gesture or communication between individuals will be treated as breach of rules and action will be taken accordingly.
  • Items that are forbidden like slide rulers, calculator, logarithm table, mobile phones etc. will not be allowed inside the exam centre.
  • For any technical assistance, first aid emergency or any information regarding the exam, students can approach the Centre Superintendent/ Invigilator in the room.
  • No individual will be permitted to leave the exam venue before the exam time is concluded. Once applicant leaves the room, he will not be permitted to re-enter the exam hall under any circumstances.
