MAT 2016 Selection Process

The MAT 2016 Selection process primarily has two steps. Step one involves getting registered for MAT 2016 Exam and appearing for it. Once the candidate has appeared for the exam and received the score, that is where the real process starts. We are talking about step 2 here.

After the declaration of results the B-Schools, prepare a cut off list and announce the short-listed candidates. This is when the shortlisted candidates have to appear for Group discussions, personal interviews and writing ability tests.

Once the cut off is released, colleges begin with their own selection procedure for admissions. Though the selection process of different colleges may vary, but the overall process remains quite the same. A candidate who has met the cut off criteria as required by the colleges is eligible for pre-admission procedure.

A more detailed discussion of the various stages is followed here-

  • Group Discussion (GD)- This stage requires candidates to be up to date with what is happening in the world. Candidates in this round are required to sit in a group of 4-5 candidates and carry out a discussion. A topic is generally given on the spot and pertains to currentt affairs. This rounds tests the ability of the candidates to present their thoughts in a structured way and carry out fruitful discussions.
  • Personal Interview (PI)- Group discussion is followed by a personal interview round. This round is conducted to assess the overall personality of the candidate. One of the main reasons for this round is to validate the eligibility of the candidate and that the candidate is positively motivated to pursue it.
  • Written Ability Test (WAT)- This round may or may not be conducted. However, this is to generally assess the writing abilities.

A good subject knowledge, thought process, confidence, good communication skills is the aim of this selection procedure, to assess candidate’s potential for managerial career.

It is on the basis of the total composite scores in all the steps of selection process, that the final merit list is announced for students having secured admission.
