Management Aptitude Test, popularly known as MAT, is a 150-minute duration test, in which a candidate has to solve 200 questions. It totally depends upon the examinee, which mode of the exam to be chosen- either online or offline. It is the most prominent management examination and the scores obtained are accepted by many reputed institutes.

MAT exam difficulty level ranges from moderate to difficult. Higher the accuracy, greater are the chances of getting admission in excellent institutes. There are 5 sections in MAT- Language Comprehension, Mathematical Skills, Data Analysis & Sufficiency, Intelligence & Critical Reasoning and Indian & Global Environment

  • These 5 sections have 40 questions each.
  • 1 mark is awarded for every correct answer while 0.25 is deducted for the incorrect attempt.
  • The difficulty level of MAT Language comprehension section ranges from easy to moderate.

MAT 2017: 30 days Preparation Schedule

MAT Data Analysis & Sufficiency Section

MAT Data Analysis & Sufficiency section judges a candidate on his critical thinking. The section requires intense calculation. Follow the below-mentioned plan in the last 30 days.
Week 1: Column graphs, Bar graphs
Week 2: Line chart, pie chart, Table chart
Week 3: Graph representation area, Venn diagram, Data sufficiency
Week 4: Practice mock tests and previous year question papers and try to keep speed, negative marking and accuracy in mind.

MAT Language Comprehension Section

A total number of questions asked from this section is 40 and can save the time if one is mastered over Grammar and Vocabulary. The difficulty level of this section ranges from easy to moderate. Try to assign 1- 2 hours a day to your English. Here is a last 4- week schedule.

Week 1: Grammar, Basics, Verbs, Adverbs, Prepositions, Interjections & Conjunctions, Articles, Adjectives, Pronouns
Week 2: Idioms- Phrases, Auxiliary & Modals, Active & Passive Voice, Tenses, Direct & Indirect Speech, Analogies
Week 3: Error Spotting, Para Jumbled words, Rectification, Synonyms/Antonyms, Cloze Test.
Week 4: Practice Mock tests and previous year MAT question papers

MAT Intelligence and Critical Reasoning Section

The section comprises 40 questions and the difficulty level ranges from moderate to difficult, so it becomes very important to cover each and every topic in a systematic way. Give 2- 3 hours to each section in the last 4 weeks. Here is the master 4-week plan

Week 1: Inequalities, Missing series, Direction sense, Coding- Decoding, Analogy, Blood Relations, Input- Output and Syllogism
Week 2: Decision Making, Statement, Assumptions, Number Ranking, Sitting Arrangement, Floor arrangement and Tabular arrangement.
Week 3: Statement & Conclusion, Identifying arguments, Assertions & reasons
Week 4: Practice mock tests and previous year question papers.

MAT Mathematical Ability Section

Mathematical Skills section in MAT 2017 will judge a candidate’s oral calculation skills. This will require direct application of the mathematical formulae and concepts. The section was the most difficult section of MAT 2017 (May session) and the questions were very time-consuming, therefore, without proper practice and schedule one cannot ace in MAT Mathematical Ability section. Following is the last 4 weeks plan:

Week 1: Ratio, Profit & Loss, Averages, Geometry
Week 2: Time-Speed-Distance, Time & Work, Pipes & cistern, Problems on trains
Week 3: Partnerships and Percentages, Algebra
Week 4: Probability, Mensuration, HCF and LCM

MAT Indian and Global Environment

The Indian and Global Environment section in MAT 2017 evaluates a candidate on his knowledge of current affairs and past events. The questions will be asked from important events, developments, sports tournaments, advertisements, International Affairs, and Business Awareness. An attempt of around 17- 20 questions can be considered a good attempt.

MAT 2017: Time Management Strategies

The question arises how one can solve 200 questions in just 150 minutes and it becomes even more difficult when there is a negative marking. Obviously, examinee needs a strategy to plan the time accordingly. So, time can be allotted to each section in the following manner.

  • MAT 150 minutes time management strategy
