IIM Ranchi Admission Criteria 2018

IIM Ranchi Admission Criteria 2018 have been released by Indian Institute of Management, Ranchi (IIM R) for admission to Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) for the academic batch 2018-20. The institute will look into several other factors such as past academic record, work experience and performance in Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) apart from CAT scores.

  • IIM Ranchi Admission Criteria includes 2 stages after the declaration of CAT Cut Off.
  • Applicants need to clear certain eligibility criteria to be eligible for Initial Shortlisting for WAT/PI which is Stage 1.
  • The overall cut off required for IIM Ranchi Admission Criteria by a general category student is 90 percentile. They must also clear the sectional cut off.
  • Candidates who manage to clear CAT cut offs laid by IIM Ranchi will appear for Stage 2 which includes PI and WAT Process.
  • After the above 2 stages, a consolidated merit list will be created which will form the basis of final admissions.
  • Admission into the PGDM program will be granted to students who clear both rounds after considering their entire academic profile and other personal traits.

Initial Shortlisting for WAT/PI Process

IIM Ranchi will shortlist candidates who will be eligible for WAT/PI process for admission to the PGDM program. The list will be prepared on the basis of CAT performance entirely and will be announced by the institute around mid- January 2018.

The overall CAT cut off percentile as well as sectional cut off scores for admission to IIM Ranchi are given below:

Every aspirant deemed eligible as per the above table may or may not find a place in the shortlist. The cut off percentile scores are just indicative and actual CAT percentile cut off is expected to be close to the cut off for the previous years.

A combined shortlist will be prepared in which the names of all selected students of the 9 new IIMs will be enlisted for further processing. Separate lists will be prepared for different categories and ranks will be assigned to aspirants as per merit.

IIM Ranchi Admission Criteria- PI and WAT Process

The second stage- PI and WAT process is one of the most crucial steps towards securing admission in the desired institute. PI and WAT will be conducted on the same day at 5 different centers- Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Chennai.

  • It will be organized by one of the 9 new IIMs and the dates for the same will be announced on the official website of the institutes.
  • Aspirants will have to write an essay on the topic given by the organizing institute within a duration of about 30 minutes.
  • Topics provided will be such that assess the creative thinking ability and socio-political awareness of the individual.
  • Students may also be given the topics to write about economic and business affairs or sports for WAT.
  • In the PI round, candidates will be interviewed by a panel of judges to evaluate their academic profile, quality of work and personal characteristics.

IIM Ranchi Final Admissions 2018-2020

Admission offers will be announced on the basis of a merit list after the PI and WAT process has been conducted. The Consolidated Merit List (CML) will consider scores obtained in both stages as also an applicant’s educational background.

It will be compiled on the basis of the following components with their corresponding weightage:

CAT Percentile

The CAT score of students who are eligible for PI and WAT process will be assigned a weightage of 30%.

PI & WAT Score

The scores of eligible candidates of the 9 new IIMs for the PI & WAT process will be directly collected from IIM Calcutta, IIM Bangalore, IIM Lucknow and IIM Kozhikode. The rest of the aspirants will have to appear for the common personal interview and written ability test of the new IIMs only.

Profile

This includes evaluation of the past academic records, work experience and diversity factor (both academic and gender). It will be given 30 points divided into 4 elements. For this, students will have to fill an online profile form and bring a verification of the same at the time of personal interview.

The elements of profile scoring are given the aforementioned weightage on the following basis:

  • Academic Profile (15 Marks)- Candidates should secure a minimum of 65% so as to obtain points in this element. The entire educational background of aspirants- from school to graduation will be examined.

  • Work experience (5 Marks)- The organizing body will also take into account an applicant’s quality of work and experience. They must have worked for a minimum period of 11 months to secure any points in this feature.

  • Diversity Factor- It is of 2 types namely, Gender and Academic diversity. Academic diversity factor ensure diversity in academic streams and marks are allotted only if aspirants do not have an engineering degree.

Gender diversity factor is used only for preparing the pre- PI rank list to make sure that there is proper proportion of male and female individuals. This is done by awarding female applicants a certain percentage of marks. For admission to IIM Ranchi, gender diversity factor carries 5 marks.
