NATIONAL LEVEL ONLINE TEST
On December 4, 2016, around 1.95 lakh candidates took CAT 2016 in across 138 cities in the country. CAT 2016 result declared on January 9, 2017. According to the analysis, there are 20 candidates who scored 100 percentiles. In comparison to last year, the number of female candidates who appeared in CAT 2016 is increased by 1%. Last year, percentage of female candidates appeared in CAT was 14.76%. Despite of an increase in the number of female candidates, all the 20 toppers are men and engineers. In CAT 2015, 18 candidates had scored 100 percentiles and 17 out of them were engineers, out of which there was only 1 female candidate.

However, many non-engineers and female candidates have scored 100 percentiles in different CAT sections. Because of high difficulty level in Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning & Geometry portion in Quantitative Ability section, there has been a drop of up to 20 marks overall this year. However, the scores in Verbal Ability has gone up.
This year, the most astounding observation made that more than 14,000 students have scored either zero or negative marks in CAT examination. Similarly, the section-wise analysis exposes that there are around 37,000 candidates who scored zero or negative in QA, and the figure for DILR section went up to 56,000.

1. Yash Chaudhari’s scorecard read:
Kolhapur-based Chaudhari is a final year B. Tech student at College of Engineering, Pune. This is his first CAT attempt.
2. Akshay Mehndiratta’s scorecard reads:
Total: 228.98 (overall scaled score) / 100 overall percentile He passed out from IIT Delhi in 2016 with a specialization in Chemical engineering. Currently working with EXL Analytics, this is Mehndiratta second CAT attempt. His first attempt was in 2016 when he scored 99.34 percentile. He pursued coaching at Career Launcher.
3. Avidipto Chakraborty’s scorecard reads:
Total: 241.68 (overall scaled score) / 100 overall percentile. Chakraborty is a final year student of BITS-Pilani. This is his first CAT attempt. He has also appeared for GMAT and IIFT exams.

4. Nilanjan Dutta’s scorecard reads:
Hailing from West Bengal, Dutta has no plans of pursuing a MBA, since he's already been on that route. A former student of Xavier School of Management, XLRI, Jamshedpur, he's currently working as a Business Consultant with Cognizant.
5. Rahul Sharma’s scorecard reads:
A faculty member at Career Launcher, Rahul Sharma is already a management graduate from IIM Ahmedabad in 2011. He quit his cushy banking profile with YES Bank to pursue his love of teaching aptitude.

Last year, out of 2.18 lakh registered candidates, as many as 1,79,602 candidates had appeared for the test. The result was declared on January 8, 2016. Around five candidates had secured 100 percentiles. There were 3 sections in CAT 2015.

IIM Bangalore has revealed that over 56,000 candidates out of total 1.95 lakh test takers scored zero or negative marks in Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (LR) section. Further, more than 37,000 test takers could not score any positive marks in Quantitative Ability (QA) section. The number of candidates who got overall ‘zero’ or ‘less than zero’ marks in CAT 2016 stood as high as 14,000.
Approximately 1.95 lakh candidates out of 2,32,434 registered applicants had appeared for the test.
