CAT 2015 Exam Analysis

The CAT 2015 paper analysis is done to give the CAT exam applicants an understanding of the difficulty level of the questions. The CAT 2015 paper analysis is different for both the slots. The CAT 2015 slot 1 paper resembled the mock CAT 2015 paper. There were total 3 sections in the CAT section 1. The distribution of questions in each section is as follows:

The CAT 2015 slot 2 analysis is identical to the slot 1 of CAT 2015 exam. The numbers of questions in each section were same. There was just a slight difference in the slot 1 and slot 2 papers. The analysis of the questions gives the following details for both the slots:

CAT 2015 slot analysis for paper 1

The CAT 2015 paper structure is as follows for the paper 1:

CAT 2015 verbal ability and reading comprehension analysis

The RC section was lengthy in CAT 2015 exam. The candidates must have practiced the section well to do the tricky factual questions. The questions required the candidate to mark answers with a high amount of accuracy as the answers appeared to be very close to each other. The session was lengthy as the paragraphs given were long. The answers were not lengthy, though.

Out of the 5 given passages, only 2 were difficult or tricky. The section was presented with more questions designed to check the verbal logic and there was no negative marking. This required the candidate to work with high accuracy.

There was no negative marking for the Non CAT MCQ based questions. It was surprising to see that there were no questions of grammar or   vocabulary. The odd sentences had 5 options instead of 4 and this made them appear tricky.

A candidate who attempted 27-28 questions in the RC section was expected to score easily 95 percentile. Provided out of the attempts 17- 18 questions are completely correct.

Para- Jumble (odd sentence out)3This was a new pattern introduced in CAT 2015. The candidate was confused as they had to identify the pair of correct sentences. This part required practice although was easy.

CAT 2015 Data interpretation and Logical reasoning section

The DI and LR section had a moderate difficulty level. The DI questions were lengthy in nature. Two questions in the LR section were difficult and the other two were of moderate difficulty level. Everyone can do moderate difficulty level questions. A candidate can do 4 sets of questions easily to get a call from IIM one must do 5 sets correctly.

CAT 2015 Quantitative Ability analysis

The difficulty level was high as there were 15 non-MCQ based questions. There were total 19 MCQ based questions in the section. There was just 1 question from Heights & Distances and no questions from the Number System. There were questions to test the understanding of the basic fundamentals. The questions came from Geometry, modern maths and arithmetic. A candidate could easily attempt 25-27 questions.

CAT 2015 Slot 2 analysis for paper 1

There was not much difference in the slot 2 of the CAT 2015 exam. The candidate can read the slot 1 and slot 2 details to understand that there was a marginal difference in the exam pattern.

CAT 2015 Verbal ability and Reading comprehension analysis

The section had questions varying from easy to moderate difficulty level. The section was easy but appeared lengthy. Three out of the five given passages were easy and rest two were difficult.  The questions were designed to test the verbal logic mostly. There was no negative marking but candidate must have done rigorous practice to get a good score in the section. Again as was observed in slot 1 there were no questions on vocabulary or grammar.  An attempt of 25-27 questions was good and ensured a 95 percentile.

CAT 2015 slot 2 Data Interpretation and Logical reasoning analysis

The two set of questions in the LR section were difficult and required a lot of practice. The DI questions were lengthy in nature. The two sets of questions in LR were doable. A candidate who attempted 16 questions can expect a good score and one who can attempt 20 can expect an excellent score.

CAT 2015 slot 2 Quantitative ability Analysis

The slot 2 had 34 questions in total and only 15 were non MCQ based. The difficulty level was higher than CAT 2014. Some questions made the candidates feel stuck. Some questions were simple and were designed to check the basic fundamentals. The candidate could easily attempt 25-27 questions.
