NATIONAL LEVEL ONLINE TEST
CMAT or Common Management Admission Test is a national level admission test conducted by AICTE. Institutes like Great Lakes Institute Of Management, Chennai ,K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research, IFIM Business School, and many others accept CMAT scores. CMAT 2016 was conducted on January 17, 2016, in Online mode. The test comprised of 100 questions, divided into four sections. The paper was of 400 marks and duration of the test was 3 hours.
AICTE followed the pre-defined CMAT 2016 Exam Pattern. There were 100 MCQs divided into four sections of 25 questions each. The four sections were Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension and General Awareness. Every correct answer fetched 4 marks while a wrong answer fetched one negative marks.
According to most of the candidates, the General Awareness section was most challenging compared to other 3 sections. For most of the candidates, Data Interpretation questions were simple. Logical Reasoning, Quantitative techniques, and Language Comprehension questions were mostly moderate type. CMAT 2016 was found out to be the easiest exam compared to other management exams like CAT 2015, XAT 2016 or MAT 2015.

Overall, the CMAT 2016 was of a moderate to difficult level and little tougher than the previous year CMAT. The Logical Reasoning had a number of easy questions. The Quantitative Ability section had 4-5 moderately difficult questions. The English section contained 4-5 difficult questions, the rest questions were of an easy to medium level of difficulty. The GK section, which is normally the differentiating section, was the most challenging section.
The questions were asked from Algebra, Arithmetic, Modern Mathematics, Number System and Geometry in this section. Questions were mostly of moderate level except for 5-6 difficult questions. The questions which candidates found most challenging was based on Quadratic roots. All of the Data Interpretation questions were easy to attempt. An attempt of around 18-20 questions in this section could be considered a good attempt. The topic-wise distribution of question is explained below:
The questions asked in this section were from Syllogism, Family Tree, Directions, Arrangement, Puzzles, Data Sufficiency etc. The questions asked in this section were quite easy. The question on Visual Reasoning was found to be difficult to most students. There were 3 questions based on Verbal reasoning including one each on Statement/Implication and Statement/Conclusion type and Fact-based inference. There were 4 passages with a total of 15 questions, three of the passages were short containing 3 questions each. 1 was long containing 6 questions. Rest of the questions asked in this section were distributed among Sentence Correction, Fill in the blanks, Para jumble, FIJ (fact, inference, and judgment), and Synonyms. The questions asked in this section was moderate to difficult level. An attempt of around 17-18 questions in this section would be considered good.
The questions in this section were from almost every topic like science, Geography, History, Literature, Indian culture, Sports, Business and Economics and Current Affairs. About 6 questions were easy, 11 medium and 8 difficult. Overall Questions asked in this section were difficult to answer. The candidates who would have been regularly reading the newspapers and who made it a point to stay in touch with the latest news of almost every field had an advantage in this section. An attempt of around 12-14 questions would be considered good in this section.
