Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination (JCECE) is a state level examination organized for the selection of eligible candidates to various engineering and medical courses at UG and PG level offered by colleges and universities of Jharkhand. The examination is held around the end of June, roughly 3 months after the Boards exams are finished. The examination is held in two stages, preliminary and finals. This article provides some tips to the aspiring candidates to prepare better for the exam.

Syllabus and Exam Pattern

The Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination (JCECE) consists of two papers, Preliminary and Finals. Both will be held on different days. There are a total of 150 objective type questions asked in JCECE. The exam pattern of JCECE consists of questions from the following topics:

Subject GroupSubjectsNumber of Questions

PCBPhysics, Chemistry, and Biology150 (50 each)

The candidates who want to pursue engineering will have questions from Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry in their paper. The candidates interested in medical fields will have questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The final paper will also consist of the same subjects, but will be substantially high in difficulty than the preliminary paper. For each correct answer, the candidate will be awarded 1 mark. For each incorrect response, 0.25 marks will be deducted from the candidate’s total score. Candidates who clear the preliminary paper will be selected for finals, and candidates who clear the final paper will be selected for counselling procedures.

Preparation Tips

JCECE is a considerably tough exam to clear. The candidates need to be focused and planned towards their approach for preparation. Given below are some of the tips the candidates can follow to improve their chances of clearing the examination.

Focusing on Important Chapters: Although JCECE 2017 has a vast syllabus, not all topics have the same importance. There are some topics that are asked frequently in JCECE exams over the years. Candidates should focus on topics that carry higher weightage.

Multiple Revisions: Revision is an integral part while preparing for any examination. A daily revision of the topics read on the previous day as well as a weekly revision of all the topics studied in that week helps to retain topics in memory for a longer time.

Solving Sample Papers: The JCECE exams follow a specific pattern of questions. There are some questions that are regularly repeated in the exams over the years. Candidates can come to know of which topics to focus on and the general level of difficulty of the paper. Candidates are advised to solve the sample papers while keeping a time tab to practice finishing the paper in the time allotted.

Strengths and Weaknesses: Candidates should know the topics they are naturally fluent at and the topics that require more concentration from the candidate’s side. The topics that seem too difficult to understand must not be left entirely. The candidate should at least make the basic notes for that topic.

Plan Your Studies: The JCECE 2017 exam are scheduled for last week of June or first week on July. This gives candidates around 3 months after their Boards for preparation. Candidates should prepare a daily study routine that should be followed. The plan should also contain regular intervals for relaxation, along with 7-8 hours of sleep.

Syllabus and Tests: Candidates should solve a variety of questions before appearing for the JCECE examination. A good practice is to complete a topic from the syllabus and then give a topic-specific test.

Negative Marking: For each incorrect response, the candidate loses 0.25 marks from his/her total score. Blind guesswork should be avoided.

Stay Healthy: Many candidates neglect their health and food habits during the preparatory period. It is imperative to have a healthy food habit, a regular and sufficient sleep cycle, as well as proper break time for stress relief. A healthy body and mind works more efficiently than a stressed and overworked one.
