Equating and Scaling Method for NEET MDS 2017
Here we have discussed the proper method of evaluating the NEET 2017 MDS test paper:
NEET 2017 MDS question paper will have 240 Objective Type Multiple Choice Questions with four options but will have only one correct answer. Different question papers will be used for NEET-MDS for different days and sessions.
NEET 2017 MDS will employee a standard psychometrically-sound approach for the scoring process. This approach will be used to score all large-scale Computer Based Examination.
To ensure fairness and validity it is necessary to practice a post-equating process. Equating is a psychometric process to bridge differences while evaluating different examination papers on a common metric and therefore giving a fair result to candidates testing multiple papers (forms).
Item Response Theory (IRT), a psychometrically supported statistical model, is utilized in the post-equating process and all the exam items are analyzed concurrently and the parameters of the estimated items are evaluated on common metric. The result is a score achieved by the candidate along with the difficulty of the administered form.
To ensure a valid score achieved by the candidate the result must be placed on a common metric. To perform scaling process a linear transformation is used, which is considered as a standard practice for such type of test administration.
Post equating takes into account that all examination scores are valid, fair and equitable. Merit List shall be made on the basis of marks obtained by the candidates.
Any query regarding re-evaluation /re-totalling /re-checking of the question paper, score or answers will not be entertained under any circumstances.
