MGU CAT 2017 Application Process

MGU CAT 2017 or (Mahatma Gandhi University Common Admission Test 2017) is an entrance examination conducted by MGU, Kerala for admissions to different post graduate programmes. MGU CAT 2017 application process will be conducted online and aspiring candidates will be required to fill out the application form.

There are a total of 26 PG courses that the Mahatma Gandhi University offers. The admission to different streams will be done through separate exams but the applicant need only fill out a single form. MGU CAT 2017 application process is likely to start in the month of March 2017 and end in the month of May.

Before applying for the exam, it isimportant for the candidates to ascertain their eligibility. MGU CAT Eligibility Criteria may vary according to the institute and department but the minimum requirement for the applicant is to have completed his UG degree in the relevant stream.


MGU CAT 2017 Important Dates

MGU CAT 2017 Application Process will begin from March 16, 2017. The last date to apply online is May 10, 2017. It isimportant for the candidates to know all the Important Dates so that they do not miss anyimportant deadline.

MGU CAT 2017 Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for MGU CAT 2017 entrance exam varies according to the stream that the applicant wishes to apply to. It is strongly advised to check the specifications, before registering, to ensure that the candidate satisfies them. Failure to meet the MGU CAT 2017 eligibility may result in the rejection of application.

The detailed MGU CAT 2017 eligibility criteria for different courses are provided below:

  1. For M.Sc in Chemistry (Inorganic Chemistry), M.Sc in Chemistry (Organic Chemistry), M.Sc in Chemistry (Physical Chemistry) and M.Sc in Chemistry (Polymer Chemistry) -
  • The candidate must have a B.Sc degree in Chemistry with Mathematics and Physics as subsidiaries
  • The candidate must have scored a minimum aggregate score of 50% marks or CGPA of 2 in Part III.
  1. For M.Sc in Physics (with Elective papers in many frontier areas of Physics) -
  • The candidate must possess a B.Sc degree in Physics with Mathematics as subsidiary.
  • The candidate must have obtained a minimum aggregate score of 50% marks or CGPA of 2 in Part III.
  1. For M.Sc in Biochemistry, M.Sc in Biotechnology, M.Sc in Microbiology and M.Sc in Biophysics -
  • The candidate must have a B.Sc degree in Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Chemistry or Physics.
  • The candidate must have obtained a minimum aggregate score of 50% marks or CGPA of 2 in Part III.
  1. For M.Sc in Environment Science and Management -
  • The candidate must have a B.SC degree in either of the following subjects:

Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Physics, Geology, Geography, Life Science, Environment Science, Environment Management, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Plant or Animal Science, Agriculture, Fisheries, Aquaculture, Horticulture, Forestry.

  • Alternatively, the candidate must have a B.Tech in Civil / Mechanical / Chemical / Environmental or an equivalent examination.
  • The candidate must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks or CGPA of 2 in Part III.
  1. For M.Sc in Environment Science and Disaster Management -
  • The candidate must possess a B.Sc degree in any subject.
  • The minimum aggregate required is 50% marks or CGPA of 2 in Part III.
  1. For M.A in Malayalam -
  • The candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in the relevant subject with minimum 45% marks or CGPA of 1.8 in Part III.
  • Alternatively, the candidate must have a degree in Arts / Science with minimum of 50% marks or CGPA of 2 in Part II Malayalam.
  1. For M.A in English - 
  • The candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in the relevant subject with minimum 45% marks or CGPA of 1.8 in Part III.
  • Alternatively, the candidate must have a degree in Arts / Science with minimum of 50% marks or CGPA of 2 in Part II English.
  1. For M.A in Politics & International Relations, M.A in Politics & Human Rights and M.A in Politics (Public Policy & Governance) - UGC sponsored programme –
  • The candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Economics / Politics / History / Law with a minimum of 45% marks (or CGPA of 1.8) in Part III.
  • Alternatively, the candidate should have a degree in English / Sociology /Anthropology / Psychology / Geography / Philosophy / Commerce with minimum 50% marks (or CGPA of 2) in Part III.
  • Or, the candidate needs to have graduated in Science with minimum 60% marks for Part III.
  1. For M.A in Gandhian Studies and M.A  in Development Studies –
  • The candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree in any subject with minimum of 45% marks (or CGPA of 1.8) in Part III.
  1. For M.A in History and M.A in Anthropology -
  • The candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences with minimum of 45% marks (or CGPA of 1.8) in Part III.
  1. For M.Sc in Disability Studies and Rehabilitation Sciences -
  • Candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Arts with minimum of 45% marks (or CGPA of 1.8) in Part III
  • Alternatively, the candidate must have any Science degree with a minimum of 50% marks (or CGPA of 2)in Part III.
  1. For M.Sc in Psychology -
  • The candidate must have B.A /B.Sc in Psychology with a minimum of 50% marks (or CGPA of 2) in Part III.
  1. For M.Sc in Computer Science -
  • The candidate must have a B.Sc degree in Computer Science / Computer Application / BCA or any other B.Sc degree with Computer Science as the main subject.
  • A minimum of 50% marks (or CGPA of 2) in Part III is required.
  1. For Master of Tourism and Travel Management (with specialization in Aviation Management, Tour Operations and Health Tourism) -
  • The candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree (including professional degrees) with minimum 50% marks (or CGPA of 2) in any discipline of this University or any other University recognized by Mahatma Gandhi University.
  1. For L.L.M. -
  • A degree of L.L.B. with minimum aggregate 50% marks (or CGPA of 2) is required.
  1. For M.Ed. in Language Education (English, Malayalam, Hindi, Arabic & Sanskrit), Mathematics Education, Science Education, Social Science Education, Commerce Education and IT Education -
  • The candidate must have a B.Ed with minimum 55% marks or a CGPA of 2.2.
  1. For M.A. in Economics -
  • The candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Mathematics / Statistics under 10+2+3 pattern of education.
  • A minimum of 45% marks (or CGPA of 1.8) in Core and Complementary subjects is required.  
  • Alternatively, the candidate must have an equivalent degree from an institution approved by Mahatma Gandhi University.

MGU CAT 2017 Application Fee Payment

After the application form has been correctly filled and the necessary documents have been uploaded, the candidate will be required to make payment for the MGU CAT 2017 application fee. Before proceeding with the option of fee payment, the candidate must make sure that all details have been correctly provided.

The application fee for MGU CAT 2017 varies according to the category that the applicant belongs to. The details of registration fee are as given below:

For General Category candidates: The application fee is INR 500 for each programme or group of programmes listed as a single option.

For SC / ST candidates from Kerala: The application fee is INR 250 for each programme or group of programmes listed as a single option.

Payment methods:

The application fee can be paid using any online option such as Credit card, debit card or cash cards. Internet Banking can also be made use of for this purpose. It must be noted that the fee cannot be paid via offline options.

Once the fee has been successfully remitted, the candidate must verify all details of the MGU CAT 2017 application form again. Then, after ascertaining that all fields have been accurately filled, the candidate should click on “Final Submit” button.


MGU CAT 2017 Application Procedure

The application process for MGU CAT 2017 will be conducted online only. Candidates must go through the general instructions before starting the form filling process. The step-by-step guide for the MGU CAT 2017 application procedure is given below:

  • Visit the official website at and click on the tab “CAT-MGU 2017”.
  • You can also visit this link - www.cat.mgu.ac.in
  • Register by providing the requisite details.
  • Create a password for your account by sticking to the mentioned guidelines.
  • After successful registration, an application number will be provided.
  • Note the application number down for future login purpose.
  • Use the password and application number to log into your account and start the form filling process.
  • Provide the necessary details such as name, date of birth, qualification details, and category.
  • Upload a scanned copy of your recent passport size photograph.
  • The photograph must not exceed the size limit of 30kb.
  • Select the programmes you wish to apply for.
  • Make payment of the application fee.
  • Verify all details and click on “Final Submit” to complete your application process.
  • The hard copy of the application form need not be sent to the conducting authority except for M.Ed. programme.

The candidates who have submitted the duly filled application form would only receive the MGU CAT Admit Card from the official site.

Those who have applied for M.Ed. must send the hard copy of their completed application form along with self-attested copies of degree certificate, mark lists of qualifying examination and proof for weightage points to the following address:

“Director, School of Pedagogical Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University, PIN 686560”.The candidate must ensure that the application form reaches the mentioned address before the specified deadline.
