MAT 2017 Counselling

MAT is a National level Entrance Examination for admission in B-schools across India which is conducted 4 times in a year by AIMA. MAT scores will be accepted by 500 B-Schools throughout India. MAT Result (December 2016) was officially announced by AIMA on December 23, 2016. The scores of MAT will be accepted only for the academic year 2017-19.

The scores of MAT December 2016 will be accepted in around 323 B-schools of India and according to the selection process. Shortlisted candidates will be participating in MAT Selection Procedure conducted by all participating institutes separately. They will be shortlisted either on the basis of their percentile score or their cutoff according that will vary for each management institution.

Usually the procedure followed by management institutes includes:
Group Discussion (GD)
Personal Interview (PI)
Written Ability Test (WAT)

In majority of management institutions these days, written ability test is considered more essential than the earlier idea of group discussions. It is because the admission committee declared that it is more convenient to judge a person’s view points based on Written Ability Test than in a Group Discussion. They stated this argument as they realized that a soft spoken candidate loses their chance to score in a group discussion when the louder candidate speaks a lot about a given topic.

MAT 2017 Counselling 

The candidates need to register online for participating in MAT Counselling. The candidates need to click on “Apply online” and lock the seats of your choice in the participating institutes and visit the allocated institutes after confirmation.

Following documents are required at the time of counselling:

  1. Xerox copy of Counselling Letter
  2. Xerox Copy of Admit Card
  3. Bank Draft (check details in AIMA MAT Prospectus)
  4. MAT Rank Card 
  5. Medical Documents
  6. Original and xerox of 10th , 12th and graduation certificates
  7. 6 passport size black & white and colored photographs of the candidate

Requirement of Aptitude test for Selection

Aptitude tests is conducted to discover suitable & efficient student to meet industry & market standards in future. Your selection will depends on following factors:

  • Marks in qualifying exam/equivalent CGPA
  • Performance in MAT exam
  • Date of Birth: DOB benefits will be provided to those students who are older than other student with the same cutoff in merit list. 

Selection Criteria for Sponsored Category Student

  • If you are working in any government/regulatory/research/academic or consultant organization then you have to go through the institute level test with respect to fulfillment of minimum qualification.
  • Work Experience: If you have 2 year’s post qualification experience through a technical/engineering institute of state or national level.
  • Requirement of certificate: Your selection will depend on presentation of sponsorship certificate from respective institute at the time of test.
  • In case of equivalent marks of two students DOB will be the merit criteria.

Selection of Sons/Daughter of NRI Personnel

  • You must hold a valid passport regarding fulfillment of NRI quota.
  • 5% of available seats are reserved.
  • Seats will be converted to general intake in case of non-availability of NRI students.

Calculation of MAT Score

The final cumulative score calculation for selecting candidates after various rounds of selection procedure would be based on the following parameters.

  • Your score will be calculated by comparing it with an average group of other students. Your ability & aptitude performance are evaluated relative to performance of group of students.
  • To obtain your composite score, collect your score in each test area. Calculate percentile in test areas & in turn calculate total percentile.
  • Score obtained in Indian & Global environment section is not used in composite score calculation rather mentioned separately in the score card.

Top 5 Colleges criteria for selection and their cutoffs

You need to prepare thoroughly for the exam to secure admission in a top B-school. One of the top B-School, Ta Pai Management Institute, Manipal which has an overall rank 4 throughout India, accepts cutoff 700. Xavier Institute of Management in Bangalore also accept students having minimum score as 700. Overall, cutoff in top B-school ranges from 500 to 700. Thus, it is a top beat competition and you need to start your preparations as early as possible.

The top 5 institutes’ criteria of selection in detail are as follows:
1. Department of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras

For selection in IIT MBA, Madras, the candidate must have a valid score in the MAT exam. If they have the minimum score or percentile which will be the cut off mentioned by the institution, they will be shortlisted. It will also consider past academic performance, work experience etc.

Minimum Academic Qualifications for all the shortlisted candidates will also be taken further into notice. Graduates in any degree must have achieved first degree or 60% marks and above (55% and above for SC/ST candidates) in their degree from a reputed or recognized University. Fr=or defense personnel, the required qualifying degree is 55%. Final year students, who will be applying for MAT, will also be able to apply in this institute, and if they get selected, they will be given admissions provisionally. The only condition being, that they must meet all the requirements of the minimum percentage before the start of the exam and can submit the provisional certificate within two months of joining the program.

 Later on, a personal interview will be conducted on a specific location which will be followed by group task performance and written communication. 

2. TA Pai Management Institute, Manipal

For selection in TA PAi Management Institution, candidate must have a graduate degree in any discipline from a recognized University with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks. The students of final year, if selected, will have to submit required proof of completion of their graduation by the time they join the post graduate programme. A stipulated date will be given by which they need to submit all their mark-lists and other essential testimonials.

Scores of MAT exam, academic excellence and work experience will also be considered. Later on, after the shortlist is out, candidates will be asked for a written test or personal interview and other evaluation components involved in the admission procedure.

Then, the overall performance will be considered for the selection of the candidate.

3. Sydenham Institute of Management Studies, Research and Entrepreneurship Education, Mumbai

Students who want admission in this institute must have a graduation degree with 50% marks or above from a recognized University (45% and above for SC/ST candidates).  Final year students can also apply for the admission process. You should achieve the minimum score required in MAT 2016 and you will be able to get admission in the institution. Candidates do not require applying separately for this institution and the admissions will be handled by the CAP itself. Candidates with work experience will be given importance than candidates who have zero experience in the industry for the selection procedure.

4. Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship, Bangalore

Candidates with minimum aggregate of 50% marks(45% for SC/ST candidates) in their graduation from a recognized university can apply for MBA in this institution. Candidates who are in final year can apply and they must be able to complete their graduation before June 15, 2017. They need to submit proof of their passing degree before September, 2017 and they should be clearing their graduation with 50% marks only. Any other candidate who has scored less need not apply for this institution.
Candidates who will be able to get 70% in MAT entrance exam of 2017 will be eligible for admission in the MBA programme. Your academic record, performance in Group Discussion and Personal Interview will also be considered. Better work experience and participation in extra-curricular activities will also be given more importance during the selection criteria.

5. Institute of Public Enterprise, Hyderabad.

Candidates must have a graduate degree with minimum percentage as 50% or equivalent CGPA (45% for SC/ST candidates) in order to be eligible for the admission process. Final year students clearing the selection process will have to submit their proof of completion of graduation within 4 weeks of joining the course.
Candidates applying for MAT must submit the application form to the institute as well. Short-listed candidates will require sitting through personal interview and group discussions which will be conducted by the institution for the selection. Te final selection is going to be based on overall performance in Admission Test, Group Discussion, Personal Interview and consistent academic Awards.
