MAH MCA CET 2017 Exam Pattern

The MHT MCA CET 2017 is scheduled on the March 27, 2017. It is a Computer Based Examination which provides admissions in the post graduate degree programme in Master of Computer Applications in the state of Maharashtra. The competent authority appointed by the Government of Maharashtra to conduct the examination is the Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra. The candidates who fulfill the MAH MCA CET Eligibility Criteria can appear for the examination. The MAH MCA CET 2017 is a multiple choice objective type examination i.e. questions with four options with one correct choice. The examination is conducted in multiple sections in the MAH MCA CET Exam Centers. The number of sections in the examination has been updated to two since 2014. The two sections in the MAH MCA CET are as follows:

  • General Aptitude (GA)
  • Computer Concepts (CC)

General Aptitude- This section comprises of the questions to test the general aptitude of the candidate required to pursue a computer application and software based profession.

Computer Concepts- This section tests the computer based basic knowledge and basics of operating systems.


MAH MCA CET 2017 General Pattern

 The basic examination pattern followed for the MAH MCA CET 2017 is mentioned below:

  1. The examination has two sections with 50 questions in each section i.e. 25 questions of General Aptitude and 25 questions of Computer Concepts.
  2. The MAH MCA CET 2017 is conducted online with a set time duration of 90 minutes.
  3. English is the mandatory language of the questions. The translation of any question to any other language shall not be permitted.

MAH MCA CET 2017 Marking Scheme

The MAH MCA CET 2017 is an online format type exam which enables the candidates to get shortlisted for admissions in various colleges of Maharashtra offering admissions in MCA course. The admissions are offered for First year/ Direct Second Year (Separate Division and Lateral Entry) of three year MCA Degree Programme. The details about the marking scheme are as follows:

  1. The MAH MCA CET 2017 comprises of two sections with each section of 100 marks. Thus, the total marks of the candidate are calculated out of 200.
  2. The candidate shall be awarded with 4 marks for every correct answer.
  3. Negative marking system is followed for the examination. The candidate shall lose 1 mark for every incorrect answer.
  4. The candidate shall not be marked for a non-attempted question.

MAH MCA CET 2017 SYLLABUS

The MAH MCA CET 2017 is conducted in two sections of 100 marks each with 25 questions in each section. The sections are namely General Aptitude and Computer Concepts. The scores for each session are equated using standardized equi-percentile method. The scores of MAH MCA CET 2017 enable the candidate to participate in MAH MCA CET Counselling. The detailed syllabus for both the sections is mentioned below:

  1. General Aptitude-The main objective of this paper is to assess the general aptitude of the candidate to pursue a computer applications and software profession. The questions in this paper will cover the following sub topics:
  1. Logical reasoning- The process of using a rational, systematic series of steps based on sound mathematical procedures and given statements to arrive at a conclusion.
  2. Quantitative reasoning- The Quantitative Reasoning is the test of one’s basic mathematical skills, understanding of elementary mathematical concepts, one’s ability to reason quantitatively and to model and solve problems with quantitative methods.
  3. High School Mathematics- This section includes the test of basic algebra, geometry, trigonometry and pre-calculus.
  4. Vocabulary- This section includes the test of the English vocabulary of the candidate.
  5. English comprehension- This section shall test visual understanding of the candidate and reading skills.
  6. Verbal Ability- The verbal ability is also done to check the language related skills of the candidate.
  1. Mathematics- A good knowledge of the following topics of high school mathematics (up to the 12th standard) will be beneficial for the candidates.
  2. Algebra : The topic of Algebra in mathematics requires to cover the following subtopics:
  • Fundamental operations in Algebra
  • Expansion
  • Factorization
  • Quadratic equations
  • Indices
  • Logarithms
  • arithmetic, geometric and harmonic progressions
  • Binomial theorem, permutations and combinations.
  1. Co-ordinate Geometry: The study of planar mathematics i.e. X and Y axes with their calculations and formulae comprise coordinate geometry. The following sub heads are required to be covered in this main heading:
  • Rectangular Cartesian co-ordinates
  • Equations of a line, mid-point, intersections etc.
  • Equations of a circle, distance formulae, pair of straight lines, parabola, ellipse and hyperbola
  • Simple geometric transformations such as translation, rotation, scaling.
  1. Differential Equations: Differential equation is an equation which involves derivatives of a function or functions.
  • Differential equations of first order and their solutions
  • Linear differential equations with constant coefficients
  • Homogenous linear differential equations.
  1. Trigonometry: It is the branch of mathematics dealing with the relations of the sides and angles of triangles and with the relevant functions of any angles. The following sub-topics are studied for trigonometry:
  • Simple identities
  • Trigonometric equations
  • Properties of triangles
  • Solution of triangles
  • Height and distance, inverse function
  1. Probability and Statistics:probability distribution is a table or an equation that links each outcome of a statistical experiment with its probability of occurrence. The below mentioned topics are include under Probability and Statistics:
  • Basic concepts of probability theory
  • Averages, Dependent and independent events
  • Frequency distributions, and measures of dispersions
  • Skewness and kurtosis
  • Random variable and distribution functions
  • Mathematical expectations
  • Binomial
  • Poisson
  • Normal distributions
  • Curve fitting
  • Principle of least squares, correlation and regression.
  1. Arithmetic: It is the branch of mathematics dealing with the properties and manipulation of numbers. It includes the following topics:
  • Ratios and proportions
  • Problems on time-work, distance-speed, percentage, etc.
  1. Basic Set Theory and Functions:
  • Set, relations and mappings.
  1. Mensuration: The part of geometry concerned with ascertaining lengths, areas, and volumes is termed as Mensuration. It comprises of the following sub-heads:
  • Areas, triangles and quadrilaterals
  • Area and circumference of circles
  • Volumes and surface areas of simple solids such as cubes, spheres, cylinders and cones.
  1. Computer Concepts
  1. Computer Basics : The following sub topics are to be studied under this main heading:
  • Organization of a computer
  • Central Processing Unit (CPU)
  • Structure of instructions in CPU, input / output devices, computer memory, memory organization, back-up devices.
  1. Data Representation : It includes the following sub topics:
  • Representation of characters
  • integers, and fractions
  • binary and hexadecimal representations
  1. Binary Arithmetic: Binary Arithmetic consists of the following sub-headings:
  • Addition, subtraction, division, multiplication
  • Signed arithmetic and two’s complement arithmetic
  • Floating point representation of numbers
  • Normalized floating point representation
  • Boolean algebra, truth tables
  • Venn diagrams.
  1. Computer Architecture: This topic requires the study of the following sub headings:
  • Block structure of computers,
  • Communication between processor and I / O devices, interrupts.
  1. Computer Language: It comprises of the following topics:
  • Assembly language and high level language
  • Multiprogramming and time sharing operating systems
  • Computer Programming in C.
  1. Operating System basics: The basics of operating system includes the following topics:
  • Multiprogramming
  • Timesharing operating systems.
