KMAT Exam Pattern 2017

KMAT Exam Pattern is laid out by Karnataka Private Post Graduate Colleges Association (KPPGCA). The pattern for the management entrance exam has not seen any major changes over the years. For this year, KMAT 2017 is scheduled for July 30, 2017. It is conducted for admissions to MBA/ PGDM and MCA Programs offered at B-schools across Bangalore and Karnataka. Except for the level of questions, everything else like mode of examination, nature of questions, number and sections of questions are similar.

Listed below are quick facts related to KMAT Exam Pattern 2017:

  • Karnataka Management Aptitude Test (KMAT) is conducted in offline mode
  • The questions are of objective type in nature (Multiple Choice Questions)
  • A total of 120 questions is asked, that are further divided into 3 sections. There is no restrictive order to attempt the sections. One can attempt any sections at any time and also can move to and fro among the sections
  • The syllabus ranges from Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension, Logical & Abstract Reasoning and Quantitative Ability. CheckKMAT Syllabus
  • For each correct answer, 1 mark is awarded. There is no provision of negative marking.
  • The total time duration of KMAT 2017 is 120 minutes. No extra time is provided to any candidate under any circumstances.
  • The standard of questions asked is moderate and of secondary level.
  • The questions asked are confusing with the aim to test candidates’ ability to solve complex problems. The ranges from Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension, Logical and Quantitative Ability, General Awareness and others. Exam Pattern of KMAT MBA/ PGDM

  • Mode of Examination– KMAT for MBA or PGDM will be conducted in offline mode. Candidates appearing for KMAT will be provided a blank OMR sheet, in which candidates have to darken the circles with their answers.
  • Number of Sections- There are 3 sections in KMAT viz. Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension, Logical & Abstract Reasoning and Quantitative Ability.  
  • Duration of Exam- The bank exam will be of 2 hours (120 minutes).
  • Nature of Questions-  Questions asked in the exam will be of objective type. Each question will have 4 options wherein only 1 option will be correct.
  • Number of Questions– In KMAT MBA/ PGDM exam, there will be a total of 120 questions. These questions are further divided into 3 sections i.e. Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension, Logical & Abstract Reasoning and Quantitative Ability will have 40 questions each. 
  • Marking Scheme– KPPGCA has defined a proper marking scheme for its management exam. For this paper, each question will carry 1 mark. Also, there is no provision of negative marking.
  • Language of Exam- The questions are to be answered in English answer only.

Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension

English language ability is tested through questions on Grammar, vocabulary, sentence completion, synonyms, antonyms, comprehension of passages etc. There would be questions on contents of the passages and choice of appropriate words, phrases, expressions and similar language skills. This shall include the passages with questions based on their contents to test comprehension.

The questions in this section will be of matriculation standard. KMAT 2017 proposes to test the General Awareness of the candidates as is expected from an educated person living in the society. No specific syllabus can be defined for General Awareness However, it may contain questions on current and conventional General Knowledge on various issues past and present

Quantitative Aptitude: Quantitative Aptitude encompasses all the questions ranging from purely numeric calculations to problems of arithmetic reasoning, graph and table reading, percentage analysis, categorization and quantitative analysis. The quantitative aptitude test measures the numerical ability and accuracy in mathematical calculations of the candidates.
