KMAT 2017 PATTERN & SYLLABUS
STATE LEVEL OFFLINE TEST
KMAT 2017 is a state level test for admission to MBA/PGDM and MCA courses of 169+ B schools in the state of Karnataka. KMAT 2017 is a pen-paper based test with 120 questions divided among 4 sections. There is not any restrictive order to attempt the sections. Candidates can attempt any sections at any time and also can move to and fro among the sections. The total time duration of KMAT 2017 is 120 minutes. No extra time is provided to any candidate under any circumstances. The standard of questions asked is moderate and of secondary level. The questions asked are confusing with the aim to test candidates’ ability to solve complex problems. The KMAT 2017 Syllabus ranges from Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension, Logical and Quantitative Ability, General Awareness and others.
Candidates are advised to take reference from good books for better performance in KMAT 2017. Books to be referred for KMAT 2017 are Wren and Martin for English and Verbal Ability, Logical Aptitude & Quantitative Reasoning and Date Interpretation by Arun Sharma. Candidates are advised to study standard 8-10 books along with ‘The Hindu’ and other English Newspapers for General Awareness and current affairs.

Total of 120 questions is divided among four sections viz. Verbal Ability, Quantitative Ability, Logical Reasoning and General Awareness. Candidates can attempt questions in any order. The questions per section are mentioned in the table below for both MBA and MCA.

Questions asked in KMAT 2017 are from various topics of secondary level. Candidates are advised to do a thorough revision of Quantitative and Logical Reasoning questions as the problems asked are moderate and candidates will be required to solve such complex problems. Given below is the detailed analysis of KMAT Syllabus.
English language ability is tested through questions on Grammar, vocabulary, sentence completion, synonyms, antonyms, comprehension of passages etc. There would be questions on contents of the passages and choice of appropriate words, phrases, expressions and similar language skills. This shall include the passages with questions based on their contents to test comprehension.
This shall include questions to measure how quickly and accurate candidate can think. The section may have questions in sets as well individual ones based on Verbal Reasoning, analogy among others.
The questions in this section will be of matriculation standard. This shall include questions to know how quick and accurate candidate can work with numbers, do numerical calculations, understand various arithmetic problems involving ratio & proportion, percentage, interest, time & speed etc. Apart from Arithmetic, the questions may also be based on Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and parts of mathematics. This test also helps to measure candidate’s power of quantitative reasoning, interpretation of tables, common graphs & charts.
KMAT 2017 proposes to test the General Awareness of the candidates as is expected from an educated person living in the society. No specific syllabus can be defined for General Awareness However, it may contain questions on current and conventional General Knowledge on various issues past and present.

Candidates are advised to refer books for better preparation for KMAT 2017. Reference from different books for all the sections, daily practice of model test papers and previous year papers will help candidates to score better in KMAT 2017. Books of the Secondary level is recommended for preparation of Verbal Ability and Quantitative Ability. Extra attention should be given to Logical Reasoning section as it covers tricky, confusing and complex questions. Books highly recommended for KMAT Exam is mentioned below. Quantitative Aptitude: Quantitative Aptitude encompasses all the questions ranging from purely numeric calculations to problems of arithmetic reasoning, graph and table reading, percentage analysis, categorization and quantitative analysis. The quantitative aptitude test measures the numerical ability and accuracy in mathematical calculations of the candidates.

Logical Reasoning: Deductive reasoning determines whether the truth of a conclusion can be determined for that rule, based solely on the truth of the premises. Logical Reasoning test the candidates’ ability to solve complex problem that involves logics and reasoning.

Verbal Ability: Verbal Ability encompasses all the questions testing the knowledge of candidate about English as a language. It also helps candidates’ ability to read, adapt and resolve any explained situation.
