JEE MAIN 2017 Seat Allotment Process

JEE Main 2017 is a national level examination which offers admission to the selected candidates in bachelor courses like Engineering, Architecture and other technological courses.  JEE 2017 admission process has started after the declaration of JEE Advanced 2017 Results. JEE Seat Allotment 2017 is done following the process of CSAB (Centralized Seat Allotment Board) will be conducted by JoSAA. JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) 2017 has been set up by Ministry of Human Resource Development to execute the seat allotment process. The candidates must fill their details for JEE 2017 Seat allotment in July.

JEE 2017 Results has been declared on June12, 2017. The candidate who have been selected will be provided JEE 2017 Rank Card and JEE 2017 Score Card. The selected candidates will be able to participate in the JEE 2017 Counselling Process.

JEE 2017 Seat Allocation Important Dates

Factors affecting JEE Main 2017 Seat Allotment

Candidates who are selected in JEE Main 2017 and JEE Advanced are eligible to participate in the counselling process. JoSAA will consider the following points before allotting the seat to the candidates.

  • The All India JEE Merit List.
  • The preference list given by the candidates.
  • The reservation policy of the institute and the number of candidate belonging to the reserved categories.
  • Availability of seats in different categories.

JEE Main 2017 Seat Allotment Documents Required

Candidates need to produce the following documents at the time of document verification. All the original documents and certificates should be produced. Any failure to bring any or all the documents mentioned will cancel the admission and the candidate will lose their right to claim the admission.

  • Candidates belonging to the reserved categories must bring their category certificate issued by the competent authority.
  • A character certificate issued by the high school must be produced.
  • JEE Main Admit Card and JEE Main Rank Card must be produced.
  • Copy of the Confirmation Page.
  • Certificates of Class 10th and Class 12th must be produced in original on the day of Document Verification.
  • Migration Certificate issued by the school.
  • Recent Photographs.
  • Candidates belonging to PwD Category must bring the original Medical certificate.
  • Attested copy of the Passport or any other equivalent identity card.

JEE 2017 Seat Allocation Process

JEE 2017 Seat Allotment is purely based on the merit and the choices made by the candidates. If the candidate rejects the seat allotted once, he will not be allowed to participate in the further rounds of the counselling process. First three rounds of the seat allotment will be conducted by JoSAA. The fourth round which is a special round of counselling is conducted by CSAB. The selected candidates must follow the following steps to participate in the JEE 2017 Counselling:

  1. Online Application: Candidates must visit the official website of JEE Main 2017. Click the link of JEE 2017 counselling and fill all the asked details like name, address, exam details, bank details, etc. The candidate must fill the correct details and review them before submitting. Candidates must pay the registration fee for the counselling process. The JEE 2017 Counselling fee can be paid via challan, debit card or credit card.


  1. Choice filling: he candidates must fill his/her preferences of the colleges. For that, the candidates must login to his/her account and mark options of colleges and courses to fill the preference. The choices should be made carefully and according to the merit. The choices will not be changes or altered in any manner once submitted. The candidates must duly submit the choices before the last date.


  1. Seat Allotment and Document Verification: The JEE Seat Allotment is done on the basis of the merit list, the preferences given by the candidates and reservation norms of the institute. Candidates will be able to participate in multiple rounds of counselling. If a seat is allotted to the candidate, he/she must report at the reporting center in order to verify the documents by the officials and reserve a seat. It must be noted that the candidate must pay the fee for the seat allotment in time. Any request of getting admitted or payment of the fee after the last date will not be entertained. At last of this step, a provisional admission letter will be issued.


  1. Reporting at the Allotted Institute: Candidate must report to the allotted institute with all the required documents. Any failure in doing so, will lead to the cancellation of admission.


JEE Main 2017 Spot Counselling

JEE Main spot counselling will be held if the seats are vacant after all the round of the usual rounds of counselling. However, the candidates do not need to apply freshly to participate in the Spot Round Counselling. The candidates who did not get allotted any seat after all the usual rounds of the counselling will be participating in the Spot Counselling of JEE 2016. Candidates who did not apply for the usual rounds of allotment can make a fresh application for Spot Counselling of JEE Main. Candidates who are applying fresh will have to lock the choices and make the payment of the fee before the last date.

JEE Main 2017 JoSAADual Reporting

According to JEE Main 2017 JoSAA, Dual Reporting is the one time chance to switch the allocated seat. The candidate will be given a chance to apply again for the Counselling and then fill their choices. Dual Reporting is reporting twice to switch the allocated seat from one institute to another. Candidates can dual report when they want to change the allotment from NIT + System Changes to an IIT/ ISM. If the candidate is allocated seat in NITs, IIITs or Other GFTIs but looking forward to confirming the allocated seat in IITs/ISM, in the next round of counselling, are required report once again at IIT/ISM Reporting Center. Same has to be done by the candidates who wish to leave the seat in IIT/ISM, to confirm the seat allocated in NITs + System Change. He/she will also have to report again at the NITs + System Change Reporting Center. Any failure to do so, the candidates will end up losing the seat in both NIT + System Change and IIT/ISM.
