JEE Main 2017 Exam Pattern

JEE Main Exam Pattern 2017 provides details about subject-wise marking scheme, distribution of marks, time duration and alike. The exam pattern for JEE Main 2017 is set by CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education). The national level entrance exam consists of 2 papers, namely, Paper 1 (Engineering) and Paper 2 (Architecture). The duration of both the exams is 3 hours. Paper 1 will contain 90 questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Whereas, Paper 2 will consist of 82 questions from Mathematics, Aptitude and Drawing section.

Paper 1 i.e. engineering paper consists of B.E/B.Tech programs and can be attempted in online or offline mode. Whereas, Paper 2 i.e. architecture paper consists of B.Arch/ B. Planning Programs and will be conducted in offline mode. Engineering Paper of JEE Main 2017 is scheduled for April 8 and April 9. And, architecture paper is scheduled on April 2. Candidate can opt for one or both the papers, as per their choices. Candidates are required to carry requisite documents on the day of JEE Main exam.

JEE Main 2017 Exam Schedule 

CBSE has scheduled JEE Main on April 2, 2017(Offline Mode) and April 8 & April 9, 2017 in online mode. JEE Main is the most competitive exam taken by students after graduating the Class 12th . Every year, more than 10 lakh students appear for the exam. Mentioned below is the schedule for JEE Main 2017 for both modes:-

Offline Mode:

As per students comfortability and to facilitate their efficiency, CBSE provides provision of attempting the paper via Online or Offline mode. However, this choice is only applicable for Paper 1. For Paper 2 students, the paper will be in offline i.e. paper pen mode only.

Online Mode:

Paper 1 i.e. engineering exam, candidate can choose if they want to give the exam in online or offline mode. In online mode, one has to sit in front of a computer and questions will be displayed on the screen. The questions are to be answered using the virtual keypad and mouse provided. To become comfortable for the CBT mode, CBSE will provide JEE Main Mock Test Papers on its official website in December 2016.

JEE Main 2017 Exam Pattern

JEE Main 2017 Exam Pattern is different for Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 which is the Engineering Paper is conducted for admissions into B.E. and B.Tech courses offered by NITs, IIITs and IITs across India. Paper 2 which is the Architecture Paper is conducted for B.Arch and B. Planning courses. The following article gives all the details regarding the JEE Main Exam Pattern 2017 for Paper 1 and Paper 2.

JEE Main Exam Pattern 2017- Paper 1 (Engineering)

This paper is conducted for students who aspire to pursue engineering programs (B.E./ B.Tech). The exam duration is 3 hours (180 minutes). Candidates with 40% disability will have a total of 4 hours to give the exam. The questions are covered from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects of class 11th and 12th CBSE Syllabus.Equal weightage is given to all the three subjects. Each correct answer carries 4 marks and 1/4th mark will be deducted for every wrong answer .

JEE Main Exam Pattern- Paper 2 (Architecture)

It will be conducted for B.Arch and B.Planning programmes. The JEE Main Exam Pattern for paper 2  will cover the following subjects- Mathematics, Aptitude Test and Drawing test. The exam will be of 3 hours duration with objective type questions. Mathematics section will have 30 objective questions compiling 120 marks, Aptitude Section will consist of 50 questions of 200 marks (as expected) and in drawing test there will be 2 questions for 70 marks on topics Memory and 2D design.

Choice and Medium of Question Papers

Usually 2 options (medium of answering) are provided to answer the question i.e. English or Hindi. However, for some states CBSE provides the option of attempting the question paper in their regional languages like in Gujarat, Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli candidates have the option to chose Gujarati as their language of paper. Similarly, students belonging to Maharashtra can choose Marathi and Urdu as their medium of question paper. For rest of the cities they can choose only English and Hindi as their medium of answering the JEE Main Questions.

    JEE Main 2017 Special Provisions for PwD (Person with disability) Candidates

    CBSE has made a special provision for PwD candidates. Candidate having more than 40% disability, then he/she will be provided with a scribe/reader as per the candidate’s demand. A scribe is one who transcribes an answer in the exam for a student who have difficulty in producing clear texts or diagrams due to many reasons, such candidates will be introduced to their scribe one day prior the exam to develop the comfortability of the scribe and the student. A reader will be allotted for the students who have sight related problems. All the candidates falling in this category will be given an extra 1 hour to complete the exam.

    Note: Candidates have to carry their PwD Certificate along with other documents and admit to the exam hall on the day of the exam.

    JEE Main 2017 Syllabus

    JEE Main is conducted for class 12 students for admission in B.E./B.Tech and B.Arch/B.Plan Programmes. The Question paper will cover class 11 and class 12 syllabus as prescribed by CBSE. The engineering paper will cover 3 subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with 30 questions from each topic. It is advised to thoroughly go through the NCERT books for these subjects, then switch over to other competitive books. For Physics section you have to prepare 20 chapters, for Chemistry there 25 chapters and for Maths you have to prepare 15 chapters of class 11 and class 12.
