IIT JAM 2017 Exam dates, Admit Card, Exam Pattern

IIT JAM SYLLABUS 2017

The admit card for IIT JAM can be downloaded from January 10, 2017 till February 12, 2017. It will be available on the official website of IIT JAM i.e. http://jam.iitd.ac.in/index.php. IIT JAM Exam will be conducted online in 2 sessions on February 12, 2017. IIT Delhi is the organising Institute for IIT JAM 2017.

Candidates must check their Name, Registration Number, Photograph, Signature and Name and Code of the Test Paper before downloading the admit card of IIT JAM. In case of any discrepancy, candidates should inform the Organizing Chairman, JAM 2017, IIT Delhi immediately.

The exam comprises 3 sections – Section A consists of 30 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Section B consists of 10 Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) and Section C consists of 20 Numerical Type Questions (NAT). The questions in Section A and C consists of consists 1 or 2 marks while questions in Section B are of 2 marks each. 

IIT JAM Result is expected to be announced on March 27, 2017. There are approximately 1700 seats every year, for candidates to get admitted in 15 participating institutes of IIT JAM.

What is IIT JAM?

IIT JAM is the national level entrance exam conducted by all the IITs and IISc Bangalore for admission to M.Sc., Joint M.Sc.- Ph.D., M.Sc.- Ph.D., Dual Degree, M.Sc.- M.Tech. and Integrated Ph.D. degree programmes at IISc Bangalore. It was started in 2004 with the objective of motivating bright candidates for pursuing careers in science.

There are 7 papers in IIT JAM on the following subjects such as:

  • Biological Sciences (BL)
  • Biotechnology (BT)
  • Chemistry (CY)
  • Geology (GG)
  • Mathematics (MA)
  • Mathematical Statistics (MS)
  • Physics (PH)

All the papers have 3 sections each. The total duration of the examination is 3 hours with 60 questions and maximum marks allocated is 100.

IIT JAM aiims to set a benchmark examination for all the future ug and pg level entrance examination in the country. Postgraduate programmes at IITs and IISc provide high quality education that can be compared to international institutions. The state of the art curricula of these programmes will provide the candidates with a high quality academic environment that in turn can lead to successful career and profession.


IIT JAM Admit Card 2017

Candidates who successfully submit the Application Form can download the IIT JAM 2017 Admit Card from the official website i.e. http://jam.iitd.ac.in/index.php. The IIT JAM 2017 Admit Card will be available from January 10, 2017 till February 12, 2017

A printout of the downloaded Admit Card must be brought to the test centre along with an original and valid photo identification. Please note that you have to give the details of this ID proof while filling the online application. No candidate will be permitted to appear in JAM 2017 examination without a valid Admit Card, and a valid and original ID. The Admit Card should be presented to the invigilators/JAM officials for verification. 

How to download JAM Admit Card 2017?

The below steps must be followed to download the admit card of IIT JAM:

  • Logon to http://jam.iitd.ac.in/index.php
  • Enter Enrolment ID/Registration No
  • Enter password and answer the arithmetic expression given
  • Now download the Admit Card for JAM 2017
  • Take a print for further use

Problem in downloading the Admit Card?

In case a candidate is unable to download the admit card of IIT JAM, he must follow the below steps:

  • Contact the Chairperson of JAM of the concerned IIT, under which at first you have to choose the Test City/Town of the candidate falls in.
  • The concerned IIT will be contacted through email/phone/fax.
  • The candidates have to provide the Name, Online Enrolment ID, Phone No., Email ID, City Code of the required test centre (first choice) to get the details about the Registration No. and the Examination Centre allotted.

Candidates must bring any one of the given identity proofs to the exam hall.

IIT JAM 2017 Exam Centers

Candidates can make their choice of the IIT JAM 2017 Exam Center in their preferred zone. The candidates have to mention three choices of the IIT JAM 2017 Exam Center in the IIT JAM Application Form. The IIT JAM 2017 Exam center is allocated by the IIT, Madras. In case of any change or discrepancy the candidates can contact the allocating authority.

IIT JAM 2017 Exam Pattern

IIT JAM 2017 is scheduled for February 7, 2017. In total, there are 7 test papers, carried out in two time slots. IIT JAM 2017 is an online mode examination i.e. a computer based test. The test is conducted in two slots each of 3 hours duration with 3 sections. There are a total of 60 questions in English carrying 100 marks. Questions in Section A will have four choices of which only one will be correct. Questions in Section B will have four choices of which one or more answer(s) will be correct. Candidate will be awarded full marks only if they select all the correct answer(s) and no wrong answers. Questions in Section C will be numerical based where answer is a signed real number, to be entered using virtual numeric keypad on the monitor. There will be no choices and answer should be typed using virtual numeric keypad.

In Section A, the candidates are given 1 mark for every correct answer and 1/3 marks are deducted for every incorrect answer. The questions carrying 2 marks for correct answer, 2/3 marks are deducted for every incorrect answer. There is no negative marking and partial marking in Section B or Section C

IIT JAM 2017 Result

The JAM 2017 Result will be declared on March 27, 2017(Saturday). Candidates can visit the official website and login with their details to view their results. The admission process will begin as per the schedule present on the website. Candidates qualifying the exam can apply for the IIT JAM 2017 Counselling. 

The IIT JAM question papers 2017 will be available on official website from February 18, 2017. Candidates may download the question booklet. The JAM Exam Result is generated on the basis of IIT JAM 2017 Answer Key.

The candidates are required to visit the official website after March 27, 2016. Login using the Registration ID and Password obtained during the IIT JAM 2017 Registrations to view the IIT JAM 2017 Result.


IIT JAM 2017 Cut Off

Candidates can check the IIT JAM 2017 Cut Off for the minimum rank required to be eligible for the IIT JAM 2017 Counselling. The IIT JAM 2017 Cut off is generated post declaration of the IIT JAM 2017 Result. The candidates have to fill the IIT JAM 2017 Admission Form if they secure the rank equal to or more than the rank mentioned in the IIT JAM 2017 Cut off.

IIT JAM 2017 Counselling

The candidates who obtain the ranks similar to the ranks in the IIT JAM 2017 Cut off qualify for the IIT JAM 2017 Counselling. Candidates must fill the IIT JAM 2017 Admission Form to seek admission in IISc, Bangalore and IITs. The IIT JAM 2017 Admission Form will be available on the official website from September 2 till October 13, 2016.

The candidates can pay the fee for the IIT JAM Admission Form 2017 through only offline (E-challan) mode since only cash payment is acceptable. The fee for the IIT JAM 2017 Admission Form is INR 600. The fee is not refundable.

After making the payment, get the SBI-stamped JAM copy of E-Challan scanned and upload the scanned image on the admission website in JPEG/PDF format.


IIT JAM 2017 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates seeking admission through IIT JAM  must have a Bachelor’s Degree. Candidates belonging to General/OBC (Non-Creamy) category must have secured at least 55% aggregate in Bachelor’s Degree. The marks secured include all the subjects studied in the graduation in all the years, without rounding off the marks. The Reservation policy will be as per government norms. The candidates are required to submit the proof of passing Bachelor’s degree with the required Eligibility to give the entrance exam.

Candidates belonging to the following categories should secure the minimum marks mentioned against them in the Bachelor’s Degree.

IIT JAM 2017 Registration

Registration for IIT JAM 2017 can be done at the official JAM website. Follow the steps given below to register and apply for IIT JAM 2017 before the last date of application submission.

Step 1: Registration

  • Visit JAM Online Application Processing Systems (JOAPS)
  • Register by entering name, E-mail ID, mobile number and password
  • After successful registration, the candidate will receive an E-mail and an SMS from JOAPS containing the enrollment ID

Note: Mobile number once provided can’t be changed later so before submitting check the phone number as it will be used for future communication.

Step 2: Filling JAM 2017 Application form

  • Enter Registration Number and Password
  • Fill in all the details required
  • Candidates will be required to fill their personal details, the choice of paper(s) to appear, exam center, category, correspondence address, educational qualification, CGPA/percentage of marks in graduation, etc.

Step 3: Uploading the Images and Supporting Certificates/Documents

  • After completing the JAM Application form 2017, next step will include uploading the images of signature, photograph, educational documents and scanned copy of SC/ST and/or PWD Certificates (if applicable)Note

Uploading the signature and photograph not up to the standards mentioned above will result in rejection of JAM 2017 application form

Step 4: Payment of IIT JAM 2017 Application fee

Payment is required to be made after completing the application form and uploading the photograph, signature & scanned certificates (if any). Application fee for various categories is given below:

Application Fee for IIT JAM 2017 can be paid only through ONLINE MODE (Debit/Credit Card, Net Banking)

For candidates paying through ONLINE MODE, they can make payment from September 2, 2016 to October 13, 2016 using Debit card/Credit/Card/Net Banking.
