IBPS Clerk 2017 Exam Pattern

Institute of Banking Personnel Selection(IBPS) conducts a common written exam(CWE) every year for the recruitment of clerical cadre in multiple banks all over the country. All public-sector banks use CWE as a base to fill the vacancies for this post. IBPS Clerk 2017 will be conducted online in two phases: Preliminary & Main Examination.

  • IBPS Clerk 2017 Preliminary is scheduled to be held in the first and second week of December 2017.
  • Candidates who will qualify IBPS Preliminary will be eligible to appear in IBPS Clerk 2017 Mains in the third week of January 2018.
  • It will be conducted in the Computer-based mode of examination.
  • The exam paper will be published in both, the English and the Hindi language.
  • The Preliminary examination will be of 60 minutes duration.
  • It will contain questions from English, Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude and will carry a total of 100 multiple choice questions of 100 marks.
  • The Mains stage will consist of questions from Quantitative Aptitude, English Language, Reasoning, General Awareness and Computer Knowledge and will carry a total of 200 multiple choice questions of 200 marks.
  • The duration of IBPS Clerk 2017 Mains paper will be of 120 minutes.
  • One marks will be awarded for each right answer while 0.25 mark will be deducted from candidate’s score for each wrong answer.

  • Both the exams will be available English & Hindi) except for the English Language Section.
  • There will be negative marking for wrong answers. 0.25(or One-fourth) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty for wrong answers. There is no penalty for unanswered questions.
  • The scores will be normalized to equate the difficulty level of the papers in different slots.
  • Candidates will be required to score a minimum overall cut off in both Prelims and Mains exams.
  • Candidates will also have to score minimum cut off scores in each of the sections in both examinations.
  • Only the score of the Main examination will be considered for Final Merit Listing and Recruitment.
  • The final score will be scaled to a maximum of 100.

IBPS Clerk 2017 Exam Pattern

BPS Clerk 2017 will be conducted in its two phases: Preliminary & Mains. IBPS basically tests Aptitude, Problem Solving Skills, Analytical Skills and Language Proficiency of the candidates. Candidates who are appearing for IBPS Clerk 2017 must be aware of the exam pattern in order to answer correctly on the day of examination. The entrance test will be held in the month of December 2017.

All the candidates must be aware of the structure of the paper in order to prepare effectively for the recruitment test. Candidates who will qualify in both these exams are thus selected for the post.

Preliminary Examination

IBPS Clerk 2017 Preliminary exam will be an online exam. The question paper will contain 100 MCQs of one mark each. 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer. The total time duration for this paper will be 60 Minutes. Exam Paper will be divided into three sections:

  • English,
  • Reasoning and
  • Quantitative Aptitude.

A candidate is required to clear the cut off of each section to qualify for IBPS Clerk 2017 Mains exam.

Mains Examination

IBPS Clerk 2017 Mains exam will also be an online exam. The question paper will contain 200 MCQs of one mark each. 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer. The total time duration for this section will be 120 Minutes and each section has a separate timing. Exam Paper will be divided into five sections:

  • English,
  • Reasoning
  • Quantitative Aptitude
  • General Awareness (with special reference to Banking Industry) and
  • Computer Knowledge

IBPS Clerk 2017 Syllabus

IBPS Clerk 2017 syllabus for Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude and English Language is same for Preliminary and Mains Examination. In addition to these two, the other subjects are General Awareness and Computer Knowledge. The General Awareness is based on the Banking Sector awareness. Candidates should prepare as per the syllabus.

Important Instructions

These are some important instructions for IBPS Clerk that candidates should follow.

  • No candidate will be allowed to appear at the examination centre other than that allotted to him/her in the Admit Card.
  • No candidate will be allowed to appear in the examination whose Admit Card is not issued by IBPS.
  • No candidate will be allowed to enter the examination centre/hall after the commencement of examination.
  • After the invigilator has verified IBPS Clerk 2017 Admit Card of the candidate, he must sign on the attendance sheet in the presence of the invigilator and mention the hall ticket number also.
  • The candidate should follow the instructions given by the invigilators in the examination room
  • Candidates should not indulge in any argument with the invigilators or other staff involved in the examination duty at the examination centre.
  • The candidate should neither talk to each other nor discuss any matter during the examination.
  • The candidate should not disturb other candidates in the examination room and maintain complete silence during the examination.
  • Candidates are not permitted to carry any electronic device and study material at examination hall like (Mobile, Bluetooth, Pager, watch, test series, books, model papers, etc.)
  • The decision of IBPS shall be final in all matters.
