GPAT 2017 Eligibility

The GPAT (Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test) is a Pan India level entrance exam conducted for admission to the Pharmacy programmes at the masters’ level offered by various AICTE approved Pharmacy colleges/institutions. GPAT is conducted and managed by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education).

Before applying for GPAT 2017, candidates should go through theGPAT 2017 Eligibility Criteria and check whether they are eligible or not. The basic GPAT 2017 eligibility for candidates is a Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy.

The AICTE GPAT Admit Card would be issued only to those candidates who have submitted the duly filled application form on time and who meet the desired eligibility criteria as specified by AICTE for appearing in the entrance test.


Eligibility Criteria for GPAT 2017

Candidates who fulfil the eligibility criteria notified by AICTE can only appear for GPAT 2017 exam. In order to appear for GPAT 2017, candidates should fulfill the below GPAT 2017 eligibility criteria:

Nationality

The candidates willing to appear for GPAT must be Indian citizens.

Qualifying Examination

  • Aspirants should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (B. Pharm) of 4 years after their 10+2.
  • The lateral entry candidates should also possess a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy of 4 years duration after their 10+2.
  • Candidates in the final/fourth year of the Graduate Pharmacy Programme are also eligible to appear for the GPAT 2017.
  • It must be noted that Bachelor of Pharmacy students from the first to third year are not eligible to take the GPAT 2017 exam.

Age criteria

There is no age restriction criteria specified by AICTE to appear for GPAT 2017 exam.


GPAT 2017 Eligibility Criteria for PwD Candidates

As per the Persons with Disability (PwD) Act, 1995, a candidate appearing for GPAT exam, qualifies to be a PwD candidate if he/she is suffering from any of the below listed disabilities. The extent of physical disability should be at least 40% as prescribed by a recognized medical committee. The categories for PwD candidates as defined by the AICTE are discussed below:

  • Physically handicapped
  • Visually impaired
  • Hearing impairment
  • Dumb

Persons with Disability candidates are also provided with approved means of teaching assistance, as chosen by the candidate on his/her application form. The form of teaching assistance provided for different types of the PwD candidates is presented below in the table:

Visually impaired and cerebral palsy candidates are allowed to bring a reader/scribe as per the scribe form mentioned on the GPAT website. Moreover, candidates can also avail the scribe facility from the AICTE.

Candidates opting for scribe/reader will be given the opportunity to interact with them a day before the GPAT 2017 examination. Once the candidate has met with his/her scribe, he/she will be required to submit an undertaking regarding the same.

It must be noted that candidates with scribes/readers will be provided with a time extension of one hour for the computer-based exam.


GPAT 2017 Eligibility Criteria for a Scribe/Reader 

Any visually challenged candidate who wants to opt for a scribe/reader are required to fulfil certain eligibility criteria. The GPAT 2017 eligibility criteria for a scribe/reader is as follows:

  • He/she is not involved in any academic tutoring/preparation for the test to be administered
  • He/she must not be a family member/member of the candidate
  • He/she has academic qualification lower than that of the candidate
  • He/she should not have attained the age of 19 years of age as on January 17, 2017

NOTE: It must be noted that the age certificate of the scribe must be presented at the test center.

Candidates must note that in case any of the above-mentioned criteria is not met by the scribe/reader, then he/she will not be permitted to assist the PwD candidate for the GPAT 2017 exam.


GPAT 2017 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Ques. Is there any age restriction for appearing in GPAT?

Ans.  No, there is no upper age limit for appearing in GPAT.

Ques. I belong to Mumbai. I want to take admission in B. Pharmacy. Should I need to appear in GPAT 2017? Is the test valid for Maharashtra students?

Ans.  GPAT 2017 is not meant for getting admission into B. Pharmacy course for any state in India. For admission into B. Pharm course every state has a policy. GPAT 2017 is valid for all the states and Union Territories in India for admissions into postgraduate in Pharmacy courses.

Ques. I am a B. Pharmacy third year student. Am I eligible for GPAT 2017?

Ans.  No, only candidates who are in the final year of B.Pharm course and the candidates who have completed the course earlier are eligible.

Ques. I am a Nepali student studying in B. Pharmacy final year in India. Can I appear in GPAT 2017 examination?

Ans.  Yes, you can appear in GPAT 2017 examination but your admission into a PG course in pharmacy and scholarship will be governed by the rules and norms set by MHRD, Government of India.

Ques. I belong to SC/ST category. How many seats in M. Pharm are reserved for SC/ST category students? OR If I qualify in GPAT 2017 Examination then am I assured of scholarship in M. Pharm?

Ans.  Qualifying in GPAT 2017 examination with a score card having “Qualified for scholarship and admission into M. Pharmacy” is the minimum eligibility condition for getting a scholarship in M. Pharm course. There is no reservation criteria for GPAT 2017 admissions. Seats of M. Pharm are reserved as per state/central government policy. Scholarship to the GPAT 2017 qualified candidates would be given by AICTE as per the rules/norms prevailing at that time.

Ques. Am I eligible for registration for Ph. D. after qualifying in GPAT 2017 examination?

Ans.  GPAT 2017 score card is valid only for 1 year. This score card is valid only for pursuing M.Pharm course. However, if a candidate completes the M.Pharm course and is interested in PhD degree then this score card is valid for 1 more year. And applicants need not appear in any PhD entrance examination.
