GMAT Registration

GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) is an online assessment test owned and conducted by GMAC (Graduate Management Admission Council), a non-profit council of Business Schools all over the world. Along with its service providers-Pearson VUE and ACT, GMAC conducts the GMAT Exam every year for recruiting students to more than 6000 programs provided in the Business Schools globally.

The GMAT Registration Process is available throughout the year. It is the candidates’ discretion as to when and where to take the GMAT Test. However, they have to choose the GMAT Exam Date and center from the list available in the official website.

Why is GMAT Test Taken?

GMAT is a Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) and acts as a student recruiting tool for the Graduate Business schools. GMAT evaluates all the pivotal skills and assets required by an aspirant of Business school and reflects the capability of the students in handling the rigors of the MBA Programs. The GMAT Score  is a critical factor in gauging these four skills – Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative reasoning, Verbal Reasoning and Analytical writing which is an indispensable part of the day to day life of a Business school or an MBA Program student.

Besides the educational role, GMAT holds a significant position for the job recruiters and employers globally. Many recruiting companies accept GMAT Scores apart from work experience in various countries all over the world

GMAT Score Accepting Institutes and Organizations

GMAT Score has remarkable uses in pursuing education, gaining a scholarship in various institutes, obtaining fellowships and in getting jobs. The aspirants of GMAT can go through the list of myriad universities, fellowships and organizations that either accepts the GMAT score or require GMAT Score for admission to various programs offered in the official website of GMAC. The steps to find the GMAT Score accepting institutes and organization are given below:

  1. Go to the official website of GMAC.
  2. Enter the following specifications:

      By Region: Enter the details of the region in which you are looking for an institution.

      By Country: Enter the Country name in which you are looking for an institution.

  1. Click on the Search button.

The list of institutions and organizations will be displayed on the screen.

GMAT Eligibility

There are certain eligibility criteria for applying to GMAT Exam. The candidate must satisfy certain age limit criteria and there are different norms and regulations regarding the number of attempts which are stated below:

  • The candidates applying for the GMAT Exam must be 18 years old.
  • In case, he/she is 13-17 years old, he/she should provide a written proof of the guardian’s consent in taking the GMAT Test.
  • The GMAT Exam can be taken only 5 times in a duration of 12 months.
  • He/she should wait for minimum 16 days before taking the test again.
  • He/she must wait at least five years to take the GMAT Exam again if the previously obtained GMAT score is a perfect score of 800.

Pre-requisites for GMAT Exam

A GMAT Exam aspirant is required to go through certain pre-requisites for the GMAT Exam. The flow chart below will reflect an idea of the entire process a candidate has to go through in order to take the GMAT Exam.

GMAT Application process

  1. Do the research

Before starting to apply for the GMAT Exam, it is of utmost necessity for the candidate to do the pre-research required, in order to avoid any kind of complications that might arise at the subsequent stages of the examination.

What do you have to research?

  • Research the schools and the programs accepting GMAT score in which you want to enroll in.
  • Research the application deadlines in those institutes.
  • In case, the candidate having a disability, requires any testing accommodations, he/she must request prior to applying as the accommodations need approval before being delivered at the GMAT Test Center.
  • Research the available GMAT Exam Dates and Centers.
  • Devise a preparation plan.
  1. Deduce a Timeline

Even though the GMAT Exam is available for the entire year, the candidates must check the GMAT Exam Dates beforehand and deduce a timeline.

Why do you need to construct a timeline?

  • If a candidate plans to register by mail, he/she must keep time for standard shipping times to the US.
  • If a candidate pays by personal check or money order, keep at least 10 days for processing.
  • If a candidate applies for accommodations in case of disabilities, keep time to collect all the necessary documents required for requesting and submitting the registration form.

GMAT Exam Dates and centers

The candidates of GMAT Exam  have the flexibility of choosing the GMAT Exam Dates and center online before registering for the examination.

Steps to select GMAT Exam Dates and location

  1. Go to the official website of GMAT.
  2. Click on “Find Test Dates” under ‘the GMAT Exam’ head.

  1. Enter the location and click on the Search button.

  1. A list of available GMAT Test Centers will be displayed.
  1. Once the convenient center is selected, click on the Next button.

Note: One can select up to three GMAT Exam Centers in order to compare the availability.

GMAT Fee and Modes of payment

The GMAT Fee is primarily charged for taking the examination. However, there are other charges incurred for rescheduling the GMAT Exam, canceling the GMAT Test and for requesting additional GMAT Score Report. Besides the registration fee, there are certain tax rates charged in countries wherever applicable. The common fee details are tabulated below:

Modes of Payment

There are various acceptable modes of payment for the GMAT Exam. A candidate can pay via both online and offline mode.

Online GMAT Fee payment modes:

  • Credit Cards And Debit Cards
  • Visa
  • MasterCard
  • American Express
  • JCB

Note: Certain Indian Banks’ Debit card will not be accepted if the bank doesn’t participate in verified by Visa or Master Card Secure code i.e. it will require the customer to enter a pin number.

If the credit card or debit card is not accepted, the registration will automatically be canceled and the candidate has to schedule for another appointment with a valid mode of payment.

Offline GMAT Fee payment modes:

  • Cashier’s cheque
  • Money Orders
  • Personal cheque


  • The above-mentioned payment modes must be payable to Pearson VUE-GMAT in US dollars.
  • It should be drawn on a US bank.
  • The payment must include the full amount including all the applicable taxes.
  • The current date must be listed.
  • It must have the appropriate signature, the bank name and its address preprinted on the front of the cheque.
  • It must be received at least 10 days before the date of the examination.
  • In case the cheque is returned due to insufficient funds in the account then Pearson VUE might incur a service fee from the account electronically. In such a situation the appointment will be terminated and the candidate has to proceed for another scheduling of the GMAT Exam.

GMAT Registration

The candidates aspiring to take the GMAT Test  can undergo the GMAT Registration process at any time of the year. However, the provision of taking the test will depend on the availability of  GMAT Exam Dates. Hence it is advisable to the candidates that they devise a proper timeline prior to registering for the examination. The GMAT Registration process is accessible in both online and offline modes.

In order to register for the GMAT Exam, the first step is to create an account with GMAC in the official website of GMAT. Once the account is created the candidates can opt for any of the below mentioned GMAT Registration Processes. The same modes are available for rescheduling or canceling the GMAT Test.

  • Online in the official website of GMAT: It is the most easiest and convenient way to schedule your GMAT Exam. The candidate can directly go to the official website of GMAT and get themselves registered.
  • Via Phone: This can be done by calling the GMAT Customer Service in your region. In this case, the candidate might be charged an additional fee of US$10.
  • Via Postal Mail: If the candidate pays via cheque or money order, this is the only option to register and schedule the GMAT Exam. The candidate can obtain the GMAT Form from the official website and mail it with the payment information.
  • Via Fax: The candidate can access the form online, fill the details and fax it to the fax details mentioned below.

GMAT Registration via Online mode

In order to schedule the GMAT Exam via online mode, the candidates have to open the official online registration portal and register themselves with GMAC. Once registered, they will need to fill all the required details step-wise and confirm it before submitting it online. The step-wise process of scheduling the GMAT Exam is detailed in the section below:

Step 1: Registration with GMAC

  1. Go to the official website of GMAT.
  2. Click on ‘Register’ option mentioned in the drop down menu under ‘The GMAT Exam’.
  3. Click on ‘Schedule a GMAT Exam’.

  1. Enter the following details to register yourself with GMAC.

  1. Upon Clicking on ‘Create Account’, the candidate will be directed to this page where they have to fill the address and contact details.

  1. Click on ‘Next’ button. The candidate will be asked to fill in the other personal details- Name, DOB and Email ID.

Note: Since this an official GMAT Profile, the Name details and Date of Birth details should exactly match the candidates’ Identification. Once the details are submitted they have to contact the GMAT Customer Services to make any changes.

Step 2: Creating a GMAT Profile

  1. In the next step the candidate will be asked for communication preferences.

  1. Then the candidate has to enter his/her undergraduate education details.

  1. Next step is to fill the work experience details of  the candidate.

  1. Then the candidate has to enter his/her preferences related to the Graduate Management Program sought.

Step 3: Verification of the details entered

The next step is verification of all the details entered. Once the candidate has verified all the information entered beforehand, he/she can confirm and submit.

  1. Once submitted the following page will be displayed.

  1. Then candidate has to re-log in so that he/she can complete the subsequent steps.

Step 4: Scheduling the test

The candidate is required to select the GMAT Exam Date and Location.

Step 5: Confirm Exam Details

The candidate has to confirm all the exam details entered.

Step 6: Pay the GMAT Fee

The next step is to pay the GMAT Fee. Once the payment is done, the candidates will be directed to the registration confirmation page.

NOTE: Regardless of the mode of GMAT Exam Registration, a registration confirming Email will be sent to the candidate.

GMAT Registration via Fax

In case the candidate opts to register via fax the candidate can obtain the International Test scheduling Form from the official website. The completely filled form must be sent seven days prior to the first GMAT Exam Date preference. In order to do so, they have to fill the Appointment Schedule Form. 

In this mode of registration, the candidate can pay via Visa, Master card, Credit Card and American Express.

GMAT Registration via Mail

If the candidate is registering by emailing the form, it should be accompanied with money order or credit card information with the form. Those forms received without payment will be returned. Besides, they must also keep in mind that it might take up to 8 weeks for the letters to reach the address. The completed form should be mailed to the following address:

Cancelling and Rescheduling GMAT

If the candidate wishes to cancel the GMAT Test, he can do so online or via phone. However, there are cancellation charges incurred according to the cancellation date.

Before 7 days of the GMAT Exam, if the GMAT Test is canceled 7 days prior to the exam through online mode, the candidate will receive a refund of US$80. This can be done by logging in to the account of the candidate and canceling the test. If the same is done by phone, a credit of US $80 will be charged along with a service charge of US $80.

Less than 7 days prior to GMAT Exam-In such a case the candidate receives no refund. However, if the cancellation is done by phone a service charge of US $80 is charged.

If you miss your scheduled exam time for any reason, your registration fee will be forfeited

Rescheduling GMAT Exam

The candidate can reschedule the GMAT Exam online or by phone. The GMAT rescheduling fee is US $50. In doing so via phone an extra service tax of US $10 is charged. Any changes made 24 hours prior to the exam day cannot be processed. If for any reason the candidate misses the exam, he/she can reappear without waiting for 16 days from the Exam date.

GMAT Registration Process for Test Takers with disabilities

GMAC provides the provision of taking the GMAT Test for the Test Takers with disabilities. They are provided with assistance and accommodations upon request within the stipulated time duration before the exam. The process for registering for the GMAT Exam and requesting accommodations is detailed below:

  1. The candidate must download and go through the Supplement for Test Takers with Disabilities.
  2. Then they have to fill the GMAT Test Accommodations Request Form.
  3. They have to complete the Authorization to disclose Health Information. This step is, however, optional.
  4. The next step is to gather all the supporting documentation stating the candidates’ disability and the need for an accommodation for a qualified evaluator. The candidates can go through the documentation guidelines mentioned in the pdfs given below:

Note: The accommodations are allowed for only those test takers who satisfy certain eligibility criteria and have a proper documentation to produce.

  • Additional testing time (all tests are timed)
  • Additional or extended rest breaks
  • Allowance of a medical device in the testing rooms
  • A trackball mouse
  • A test reader who can read the questions to the test-taker
