GATE 2017 Financial Assistance

GATE 2017 is a national level exam conducted jointly by Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institute of Technology (IITs at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee). GATE provides admission for the candidates in the 23 disciplines in the fields of their interest in engineering and science for the post graduate and direct doctoral level.

Candidates with a valid GATE score can apply for financial assistance, fellowships and many scholarships awarded by the Ministry of Human Resource Department (MHRD) or other government agencies. Any candidates who has not appeared for GATE or does not have a valid score in GATE will not be allowed to apply for any kind of financial assistance. To avail thee GATE financial assistance, the candidates must secure admission in one of the participating institutions of GATE.

GATE 2017 Financial Assistance Eligibility

  • Only the candidates with a valid score of GATE 2017 will be eligible for obtaining financial assistance during Master’s and Direct Doctoral Programs in Engineering/Technology/Architecture and Doctoral Programs in other relevant Science in Instituted supported by MHRD or other Government agencies. Ministry of Human Resource Development in their directives writes the following procedure accepted for the admission in the post graduate programs with MHRD scholarship/ assistantship.
  • The candidates admitted for part time courses are not be eligible for any scholarship provided by GATE.
  • It depends upon the regulations followed by the institutes that it accepts the admission on the basis of the candidate’s performance in GATE 2017 and a test or interview which is conducted by the departments of the colleges to which the candidates have applied to.
  • The candidate is selected on the basis on the written test as well as on the basis of his/her performance in the interview. The candidate’s overall performance will hold the 70% weightage of the candidate’s performance in GATE and 30% of that will be given to the candidate’s performance in the interview/test conducting by the respective department or and/or to the academic record, as per MHRD Guidelines.

GATE 2017 Financial Assistance Minimum Percentage

A minimum percentage can be prescribed by the admitting institutes in the test/interview they conduct. These marks would be considered as the minimum passing marks for the candidates applying in the respective institutes. Even when a candidate is seeking admission without MHRD scholarship/financial assistance, there are several institutes which specify necessary GATE qualification.

A candidate who does not satisfy this criteria of minimum percentage will automatically loose the application for the financial assessment or any kid of scholarships or fellowships.

GATE 2017 Financial Assistance Number of Seats

If a candidate wishes to take benefit of the financial assistance/scholarship, the candidates must assure admission in one of the institutes. The admission procedure could vary from institute to institute. The number of candidates who will be allowed to avail the financial assistance will be declared by the institute. The admitting institute will similarly, release the notification of the international candidates who may get benefit of the financial assistance/scholarships.

GATE 2017 Financial Assistance Important Points

  • Various fellowships are also awarded by many Government organizations. However, qualification in GATE is a minimum requirement to apply for these fellowships. The candidates should acquire complete details of the admission procedure for the concerned institution. Candidates must also check if any MHRD financial assistance/scholarships is available at the concerned admitting institution before admission.
  • The candidates must note that the criteria of the post graduate admission with financial assistance will be different for all the institutions. The post graduate financial assistantship/ scholarships must be managed by the admitting institution.
  • The policies of the reservation of seats for different categories will be decided as per the policies of the admitting institution as well as the policies made under the rules prevailed by Government of India.
