CTET Exam Pattern 2017


CTET Exam Pattern: CTET exam is held in offline mode for both Primary and Elementary stage. There will be 2 papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2. Both the papers carry equal marks. CTET Exam Pattern consists of 150 multiple choice questions in each paper. 

The duration of CTETis 2:30 hours (150 minutes). Each question carries 1 mark. There will be 4 alternatives out of which only 1 will be the correct answer. There is no provision of negative marking in the exam.

CTET 2017 is tentatively scheduled on May 10, 2017. Candidates must secure 60% or above to qualify CTET. They can appear either for the single paper or both the papers. CTET Papers:

  1. Paper 1 is for candidates aspiring to be a teacher for Class 1 to 5
  2. Paper 2 is for candidates aspiring to be a teacher for Class 6 to 8

A person who intends to be a teacher for both levels (classes 1 to 5 and classes 6 to 8), will have to appear in both the papers (Paper 1 and Paper 2).

CTET 2017 Exam Schedule

CTET Exam Pattern 2017- Paper 1

Questions asked in Paper 1 of CTET 2017 are objective in nature. Paper 1 consists of total 150 MCQs, each carrying one mark. Total time provided to complete Paper 1 is 150 mins. CTET Exam Pattern 2017 for Paper 1 is described in the table given below:

CTET Exam Pattern 2017- Paper 2

Paper 2 of CTET 2017 consists of total 150 MCQs, each carrying 1 mark. Total time allotted to complete Paper 2 is 2 hours and 30 mins. CTET 2017 Paper 2 Pattern is described in the table given below:

Instructions For CTET 2017

Candidates appearing for CTET must keep a note of the below instructions. These guidelines must be followed to avoid any confusion on the exam day.

  • A candidate has to bring his/her own blue/black ball point pen of good quality. No assistance is provided for such materials at the CTET Exam Center.
  • After getting the CTET Test Booklet, candidates must immediately fill in all the required particulars on the front page of the booklet with blue or black ball point pen only.
  • A candidate must not open the Test Booklet until invigilator asks the candidates to do so.
  • No candidate is allowed to open or break the seal of CTET 2017 Question booklet unless and until an announcement is made for the same.
  • After breaking or opening the seal of CTET test-booklet, candidate should check that the test-booklet contains the same number of pages as mentioned on the first page of the test-booklet
  • In case of any discrepancy in test booklet such as page missing, tear pages and misprinting, the same has to be informed to the invigilator immediately.   
  • Candidate must not remove any page from the Test-Booklet during the CTET Exam.
  • If any candidate is found to remove any page from the CTET Test Booklet, it is considered as the use of unfair means and is liable for criminal action.
  • Candidate has to sign twice on the Attendance Sheet at the appropriate place. First at the commencement of the CTET 2017 Test and secondly while handing over OMR Sheet to the Invigilator

Instructions for Disabled Candidates

In accordance with the Government of India, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment Department of Disability guidelines, the following instructions are applicable to differently abled candidates during the conduct of CTET 2017:

  • Differently abled candidates who make use of scribe or amanuensis, are given a compensatory time of 40 minutes in each paper of CTET Exam.
  • Candidates with disability who do not avail the facility of scribe are also allowed the compensatory time of 40 minutes.
  • The facility of scribe or amanuensis is allowed to only to those candidates who have disability of 40% or more.
  • Candidate is permitted to opt of his/her own scribe/amanuensis or may be provided by the Centre Superintendent on his/her request. Such candidates are advised to request the center superintendent for amanuensis one day before the CTET 2016 Examination in between 10 am to 1 pm.
  • There is no criteria for educational qualification or age for the scribe/ amanuensis.
  • A fixed seating arrangement is displayed prior to the commencement of Examination to avoid confusion.
  • The time of distribution of the question paper must be marked accurately.
  • Timely supply of question paper meant for visually impaired candidates is ensured.
  • There is flexibility in accommodating any change in scribe or reader, in the case of emergency.
  • Candidate is allowed to take more than one scribe or reader for writing different papers.

CTET OMR Sheet 2017

In CTET 2017, candidates are given an OMR sheet, along with a test booklet. They are supposed to mark the right answer of each question in the given CTET OMR Sheet. They must fill all the attempts neatly and carefully. No extra CTET OMR Sheet will be provided to them under any circumstances. So, it is very important to know how to fill the CTET OMR Sheet properly. Given below are the instructions that a candidate must follow while handling:

Instructions for CTET 2017 OMR Sheet

  • OMR Sheet is placed inside the sealed CTET 2017 Test Booklet
  • Candidate can only open or break the seal, to take out CTET OMR Sheet from the test booklet, after the announcement made by the invigilator .
  • Code such as A, B, C or D printed on CTET OMR Sheet should be same as mentioned on CTET Test Booklet.
  • The OMR Sheet must not be folded in any way.
  • There must be no stray marks on the CTET OMR Sheet and CTET 2017 Roll No. should only be written in the provided space.
  • On the side 1 of the OMR Sheet, columns for candidate’s roll number, name of the candidate, father’s name, center number, name of the CTET Exam Centre and subject offered for Paper are given, that are to be filled in neatly and accurately by the candidate with blue/black ball point pen only.
  • Use of pencil on CTET OMR Sheet is strictly prohibited.
  • The side 2 of CTET OMR Sheet contains the columns, which are also to be filled by the candidate with blue/black ball point pen only, CTET 2017 Roll Number of the candidate, main test booklet number, language supplement booklet number, language supplement booklet code, subject offered for Paper-II, language in which candidate has attempted the questions and signature of the candidate.
  • Out of 4 given alternatives for each question, only one circle for the correct answer is darkened completely with ball point pen, on CTET 2017 OMR Sheet.
  • Candidates should bring their own ball point pens of good quality.
  • Once a circle is darkened or filled, it cannot be changed.
  • If any candidate uses the pencil instead of pen, for darkening the responses on OMR Sheet of CTET 2017 then answer sheet will get rejected.
  • A light, faintly and incomplete darkened circle is not the correct way to mark answers and is liable to get rejected by the Optical Scanner.
  • If candidate do not wish to attempt any question than he/she can leave the circle empty against the given question.

Changes in CTET 2017 OMR Sheet

Following rules should be followed by every candidate while filling up the CTET 2017 OMR Sheet:

  • No candidate is allowed to do any rough work on the CTET OMR Sheet. Space is provided in the OMR sheet for rough work. 
  • Candidate must ensure that the option they are marking is correct. No change in answer that is once marked is allowed.
  • Use of eraser or correction fluid on the CTET OMR Sheet is not permissible.
  • CTET OMR Sheets are machine gradable and any kind of layering over the answer leads to wrong evaluation for which all responsibility lies on the candidate only.

Copy of CTET OMR Sheet

CTET OMR Sheet will be displayed on official website: An offline notice is published for the same in all the leading newspapers. Candidates can download their CTET OMR Sheet in the provided time window.

Candidate can also take another copy of their OMR Sheets by paying a fee of INR 500 per OMR. Fee can be paid by Demand Draft generated in favor of Secretary, Central Board of Secondary Education drawn on any Nationalized Bank and payable at Delhi.
