CTET Eligibility Criteria- Age, Qualification Marks

CTET Eligibility: CBSE conducts Central Teacher Eligibility Test. The board has declared the educational qualification, number of attempts, age limit and other such details for CTET eligibiCTET Eligibility 2017, CTET Eligibilitylity criteria. CTET ensures teaching jobs in CBSE recognised schools. The eligibility criteria vary for different posts. 

  • CTET also offers relaxation of marks to the candidates belonging to reserved categories and PWD candidates. 
  • Candidates should check CTET eligibility before filling up the CTET Application Form.
  • The basic eligibility for CTET is that a candidate should have passed graduation of a 2-year diploma in elementary education.
  • CTET Eligibility Age- CBSE has not defined any age limit for the candidates to be eligibile for the exam.

CTET Eligibility 2017: Academic Qualification at Primary Stage 

Candidates willing to appear for CTET must meet the eligibility requirements. The requirements vary as per the post candidates have applied for. The primary level CTET eligibility requirements are:

  • Candidates must have passed higher secondary with an aggregate of 50%. They must have passed or have been appearing in the final year of any 2-year diploma in elementary education.

                                                             OR

  • A candidate must have passed higher secondary with an aggregate of 45%. They must have passed or have been appearing in the final year of any 2-year diploma in elementary education as per the NCTE regulations, 2002.

                                                             OR

  • A candidate must have passed higher secondary with an aggregate of 50%. Candidates must have been appearing in the final year or passed in a 4-year bachelor of elementary education.

                                                             OR

  • Candidates should have passed higher secondary with an aggregate of 50%. They must have been appearing in a final year or passed 2-year diploma in education.

                                                             OR

  • Candidate must have been appearing in the final year or passed 2-year diploma in elementary education.

CTET Eligibility 2017: Academic Qualification at Elementary Stage 

CTET eligibility criteria for the post of secondary school teacher is as follows:

  • Candidates must have passed his graduation or appearing in the final year of two-year diploma in elementary education.

                                                              OR

  • CTET Qualification Marks- Candidates must have passed graduation with an aggregate of 50% and is appearing in one year bachelor in education.

                                                              OR

  • CTET Quaification Required- Candidates must have passed graduation with an aggregate of 45% and is appearing in the final year of one year bachelor in education as per NCTE regulations.

                                                              OR

  • Candidates must have passed senior secondary with an aggregate of 50% and is appearing in the final year of 4-year bachelor in elementary education.

                                                              OR

  • Candidates must have passed senior secondary with an aggregate of 50% and he must be appearing in the final year of 4 year BA/ B. Sc. Ed/ BA B. Ed/ B. Sc B. Ed.

                                                              OR

  • Candidates must be graduated with 50% and should have passed or appeared in final year of 1 year B. Ed.

CTET Eligibility 2017: Other Academic Considerations 

Candidates are also required to meet some other academic requirements as well. These are not the essential requirements but an additional quality which would be considered as an advantage of the candidate. They are given as below:

  • A candidate must hold degree/ diploma in teacher education.
  • The diploma or degree course must be recognized by NCTE.
  • In case of Diploma in Education, the courses recognized by RCI will be taken into consideration.

CTET Eligibility: Training or Work Experience Required 

Candidates appearing for CTET are also required to undergo a training session. CTET eligibility requirements for other subject teachers are provided below:

  • After being appointed, candidate with B.Ed education will have to undergo NCTE recognized special programmes for a duration of 6 months.
  • Candidates who have applied for Physical Education have to follow the NCTE regulations, 2001.
  • Candidates who have applied for Art Education, Craft Education, Home Science and Work Education are required to follow eligibility regulations by the state government and other schools.

CTET Eligibility: Verification and Certificate

At the time of CTET Selection Process, verification of certificates is carried out. Candidates should keep the following things in their mind at the time of CTET Certificate Verification:

  • A candidate who has been allowed to takeCTET must not think that he has fulfilled the eligibility requirements and will be appointed as a school teacher.
  • The eligibility requirements are verified by the concerned recruiting agency/ authority.
  • In case the candidate has taken the test and is found guilty of not fulfilling the CTET eligibility requirements, will be disqualified from the selection process.
  • If the candidate meets the requirement and secures 60% above, will be sent CTET eligibility certificate by speed post.

CTET Eligibility: Relaxation for Reserved Categories

CTET does not reserve any kind of seats for candidates from special categories. But it provides some relaxation to them which ensure equity in representation. Important information regarding CTET eligibility criteria is:

  • Candidates who belong to other categories like SC, ST, OBC or differently abled can also apply for CTET.
  • Candidate belonging to any of the above-mentioned categories will be given a relaxation of 5% marks in every subject of CTET.

Ques. What is the role of CTET in the recruitment of a teacher for classes 1 to 8?

Ans. Central Teacher Eligibility Test is also considered mandatory in aided and private schools for the recruitment of PRT (Primary Teacher) and TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher). But, qualifying the exam doesn't guarantee a job.

Ques. Is there any restriction on the number of attempts for CTET exam?

Ans. There is no restriction on the number of attempts for CTET exam. An individual can take exam n number of times for acquiring a CTET Certificate.

Ques. What is the minimum qualifying marks for obtaining a CTET certificate?

Ans. Candidates securing 60% marks in CTET exam are considered eligible to obtain the CTET Certificate. The certificate is generated for candidates who qualify the exam. It is valid for a period of 7 years for all categories. 

  • Qualifying CTET would not grant a right on any person for recruitment of teacher as it is only one of the eligibility criteria for appointment.
  • Candidates belonging to reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC/PWD) will get a relaxation of 5% in the qualifying marks in the academic eligibility for CTET.

Ques. What is the Applicability of CTET?

Ans. The certificate that all qualifying candidates receive will be applicable to the following:

  • Schools of the Central Government (KVS, NVS, Central Tibetan Schools, etc.)
  • Schools under the administrative control of UT’s of Chandigarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu and Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and NCT of Delhi
  • Unaided private schools may exercise the option of considering CTET
  • Schools owned and managed by the State Government/local bodies

Ques. What is the minimum CTET Eligibility for becoming a teacher for classes 1-5 (Primary Stage)?

Ans. Candidates aspiring to become a primary stage teacher should hold any of the following CTET Eligibility-

  • Senior Secondary Certificate or its equivalent with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education
  • Senior Secondary Certificate or its equivalent with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations, 2002.
  • Senior Secondary Certificate or its equivalent with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).
  • Senior Secondary Certificate or its equivalent with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education).
  • Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.

Ques. What is minimum CTET Eligibility for becoming a teacher for classes 6-8 (Elementary Stage)?

Ans. There is no age limit defined by CBSE, candidate of any age can appear for CTET regardless of the below mentioned CTET Eligibility. Candidates aspiring to become an elementary stage teacher should hold any of the following CTET Eligibility-

  • A candidate should be a graduate and passed or be appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or be appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed).
  • Graduation with at least 45% marks and passed or be appearing in 1- year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed), in accordance with the National Council for Teacher Education NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations issued from time to time in this regard.   
  • Senior Secondary Certification with at least 50% marks and passed or be appearing in final year of 4- year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed). 
  • Senior Secondary Certification with at least 50% marks and passed or be appearing in final year of 4-year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed.  
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or be appearing in 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education).
