CEED 2017 Exam Pattern

CEED 2017 Exam Pattern includes two parts, A & B. Candidates who clear Part A will be eligible to appear for Part B of the exam. For thhis year, CEED 2017  will be held on January 22, 2017. Candidates must prepare according to the CEED Syllabus, gaining extensive knowledge about each of the topics. CEED is an examination where candidates are assessed by analyzing their aptitude in design comprising of visual sensitivity, drawing skills, rational interpretation and creativity along with communication skills.

CEED 2017 Exam Pattern

The CEED 2017 exam pattern is going to be similar to CEED 2016 exam pattern. The exam will have two parts. Part A of the exam will have questions to test your general awareness. The part B is to test the knowledge related to designing.


The Part A of CEED 2017 has 60 questions in total which are divided into 3 sections. It includes MCQ/MSQ and NAT based questions. Part A will be conducted from 10.00 hours to 11:00 hours on the day of the exam. Part A is an online i.e. Computer based Test. There will be no breaks during the exam time given. 

The MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) section has 10 questions with four options. Candidates have to choose one correct option for the question asked. The MSQ (Multiple Select Questions) have multiple answers for one question. There are 10 MSQs in CEED 2017. The candidates shall be marked positively for each question in case all the correct choices are marked. There will be no negative marking or partial marking for this section.

For the NAT (Numerical Answer Type) section the candidates are required to mark the answer using a virtual keyboard on the monitor. There are no choices for these questions.

The Part B of CEED is of 2 hours in duration and is pen and paper based examination. Candidates who qualify in Part A can appear for Part B. Candidates will have to attempt drawing based questions and writing skills based questions in this part of CEED 2017. The first 3 questions are compulsory to attempt and the next 4 questions are optional. The total weightage of the Part B of CEED 2017 is 100 marks.

CEED 2017 Marking Scheme

Marking Scheme for Part A

The marking scheme of CEED Exam lets you know about the marks distribution and deduction. The time duration for part A is 1 hour. There are a total of 60 number of questions where 2 marks are allotted for each correct answer. Marks deducted for each wrong answer will be 0.6.

Marking Scheme for Part B

The time duration for part B is 2 hours. This section is designed to check drawing and hand drawing. Part B has following details in it:

  • There are 3 compulsory questions. All candidates have to do these questions.
  • The 4th question has options available. There will be 3 more questions and a candidate has to attend any 1 question from it.

The first question of memory drawing carries 30 marks. The second question based on Sketching of ideas carries 20 marks while the third question based on writing skills carries 10 marks. The optional questions carry 10 marks each. Thus the total weightage of Part B of CEED 2017 is 100 marks.

Note: The 2017 exam pattern may change depending upon the examination committee. The marking scheme is not clearly defined for part B. However the merit list will be prepared on the basis of the score the candidate has scored in Part B of the exam.

There are two parts in the CEED 2017 exam. Separate topics have to be prepared for the each part. The CEED Syllabus for Part A and Part B is given below:

CEED 2017 Part A Preparation Topics

The part A of CEED 2017 requires an applicant to prepare the following topics well:

  1. General Knowledge: The section is designed to test the basic general awareness. The General knowledge section has questions from geography, history, civics and other related areas. Also, there are questions that test knowledge of history of architecture.
  2. Questions on general concepts of physics, chemistry or mathematics: In 2013 there was a question that tested the general logic of pulley. Since there is no defined syllabus so the question can be asked. So it is advised to check the general questions that can be asked on the concepts of physics, chemistry and mathematics.
  3. Indian history, geography and architecture: The head is covered under general knowledge subhead. Still there is a strong possibility that more questions come on the country and its history.
  4. 3 D visualization: There are a lot of questions that test your ability to visualize. The questions in part A of the exam are basic in nature. The part B has questions more difficult.
  5. Sketching: The sketching questions will not be asked directly in part A of the exam. There will be options given and you will be asked to identify the correct option in part A of the exam.

It is important to clear part A of the CEED 2017 exam in order to qualify for the part B of CEED 2017. The part A of the exam is MCQ based and part B is theoretical in nature. A candidate will be asked to do drawing and sketching in part B of the exam.

The part B of CEED requires an applicant to prepare following topics well:

  • Creative writing skills
  • Design concepts
  • Light and shadow
  • Logical reasoning
  • Drawing ability and skills
  • How to develop characters
  • Logo designing
  • Perspective
  • Problem identification and design problem solving
  • Product designing
  • Scale and production

There is no clear definition of the CEED 2017 exam pattern as it changes with the year. The syllabus is also not well defined so please check the following preparation tips for the exam:

  • Try and do the previous year questions so that you can easily clear the CEED 2017 exam.
  • The questions are not repeated but the previous year questions give you a rough idea of the CEED 2017 exam pattern.
  • Do free hand sketching and drawing as much as possible. Whenever you see an object do the sketching and drawing of the same.
  • Try and do 3D visualization and sketching as much as possible. Nature helps you a lot in learning this technique.
  • H-grade pencil is used for light drawing and rough work.
  • The Grade- B pencil is used for shading.
  • The part- B requires you to do more visualization and drawing. So do a lot of practice and just check your ability to express an idea through drawing.

IIT Bombay has designed a mock test for the test takers of CEED 2017. The test takers can access the mock test for CEED 2017 through the following steps:

Please note: The mock test is not exactly the same as the CEED 2017 exam. This is designed just to give a rough idea of the test.
