Why July and August are important for CAT 2016 aspirants?
It is that time of the year again, when more than a lakh candidates would either begin preparation or would be halfway through their preparation for CAT. CAT is one of the most coveted exams for admission to the top B-Schools in the country. A good percentile score in CAT can ensure admission to either of the IIMs or other top notch B-schools which accept CAT score. However, a good score in CAT is a matter of hard work and persistent practice.

If you search the internet, it is full of various theories on when is the ideal time to begin preparing for CAT. While there is a faction which agrees that anything less than 12 months is not ideal for CAT preparation, there are others which vouch about a focused 6 months preparation. Although one can never accurately determine when is the right time to start preparing for CAT, it is resonated throughout that the months of July and August are very important for a CAT aspirant.

By now all the candidates, aiming for CAT 2016 must have begun their preparation. July and August is the time by when an appearing candidate is expected to have mastered (or at least revised) the basic concepts related to the topics asked in CAT exam.
Those candidates who have a good command over QA, DI and/or Verbal Ability and who just need to revise their concepts are also expected to have started their preparation by this time of the year. Considering that CAT 2016 will be held on the last Sunday of November 2016, July and August is the crucial juncture for candidates to brush up their concepts.
All top percentile scorers in previous year CAT exams, reiterate in unison that the last two months leading up to CAT exam must be dedicated to solving as many mock tests as possible (possibly one mock test every day).
To solve one mock test every day, a candidate needs to have mastered their concepts. Mastering concepts doesn’t mean that a candidate needs to have complete command over all the topics comprising the CAT 2016 Syllabus. What it essentially means that a candidate has read up on all related topics, practiced questions concerned with each related concept and is able to solve all major problems.
For all the candidates aiming to appear for CAT 2016, July 2016 and August 2016 is the time when they should be done with revising the basic concepts related to Quant, Data Interpretation, and Logical Reasoning. It is also expected that by this time the candidates have developed a fair speed of going through reading comprehension passages and must be thorough with current affairs.
The official notification for CAT 2016 will be out by the end of July and CAT 2016 Application Process will begin in the month of August. So, naturally these two months are considered to be very busy for CAT aspirants.

The months of July and August is also the time when a candidate needs to sit back and assess their performance. These two months represent the crucial juncture, which could make or break a candidate’s chances in CAT 2016. Below is a point by point schedule for CAT aspirants for July and August:
