CAT 2017 will be conducted by IIM Bangalore and this is the first time that IIMB has been given this opportunity. Prof Rajendra K Bandi who is a faculty and admission chair at IIM Bangalore has been chosen as the Convener for CAT 2017.
One thing that has not changed regarding the test is the testing partner agency. Like all the previous years, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is the agency which will act as the testing partner for CAT 2016.
Last year, there were a number of modifications that were made in the exam pattern of CAT. Students had been prepared for no sectional time limits in accordance with CAT 2014 but to their utter surprise, CAT 2015 implemented sectional time limits as well as non-MCQ questions.
Knowing the tendency for CAT to reinvent itself every year, it can be safely assumed that the CAT exam pattern will differ from the previous year in certain ways. Candidates must be mentally prepared to face these changes and ensure that they aren’t thrown off-balance.
The marking pattern and difficulty level may all undergo a renovation at the hands of IIM Bangalore. Some new alterations may be included to feature in the paper this year.
As far as the registration process and testing mode of CAT 2017 is concerned, there are no expected changes on that front. The CAT is known to adapt itself to changing times and it certainly won’t go back to the offline method of application. Therefore, the entire process of registration is likely to be online and so is the actual exam.
The CAT 2017 is likely to be released in the month of July in the third or last week. This is so as the committee is meeting in the first week of July and important factors are hoped to have been decided by then.
The registration process for CAT 2017 is expected to last for than 45 days from the starting date of registration, which may be around the first week of August.
Up until 2015, there were 19 IIMs in the country. But this year, another new IIM – Indian Institute of Jammu – will start its session. IIM Jammu is being mentored by IIM Lucknow and will have an intake of 45 students.
Hence, there are 20 IIMs in the country and all of them will be accepting CAT scores for admission into the post graduate management programmes.
The candidate has the option to apply for PGP / MBA / PGDM programmes in these IIMs. The list of all IIMS is given below –
There are many management institutes in the country that accept CAT score for admission into their post graduate courses. Some of them are - FMS Delhi, JBIMS Mumbai, IMI Delhi, IMT Ghaziabad, MDI Gurgaon, NITIE Mumbai, SPJIMR Mumbai, BIMTECH Greater Noida and TAPMI Manipal.
There has been an increase in the seats of the IIMs and other top B-schools in 2017. These institutes will now be accepting a higher number of students for their management courses. This increase in expected to happen every year in some proportion.
The CAT is an immensely tough examination and the competition is fierce. Limited number of seats and the huge competition mean that even the worthy candidates fail to gain admission. Hence, the higher intake will guarantee that some of the pressure is reduced and more students are able to secure a seat.
It is expected that very high scores in CAT 2017 will ensure that a total of 45000 candidates will be able to obtain admission in the top tier MBA programmes of the crème de la crème colleges, including the IIMs, next year.
Those candidates, who score a little less but still moderately high, will additionally, be able to gain admission due to the increased intake in the IIMs and other business colleges.
