CAT Result, Cut off, Rank Predictor
CAT Result has been declared on the official website. Candidates can check it under “Download CAT 2016 Score Card” section. 20 IIMs and over 150 private and public colleges are accepting CAT 2016 score for admission to MBA and PGDM programs.
CAT Cutoff is expected to be low compared to last few years following overall difficulty level of the exam. The cut off for old IIMs is expected to have 85+ percentile. For new IIMs which are added last year cut off is expected to be above 95+ percentile.
CAT 2016 was successfully conducted on December 4, 2016. Around 2.32 lacs candidates took the exam. Exam was held in 2 sessions from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The exam paper was similar to the mock test uploaded on the official CAT website. The CAT 2016 paper was tougher than last year. While students found VRC and QA moderately difficult, DI was considered the toughest of the lot. The difficulty level for both the slots of exam was similar.

What is CAT 2016 Result date?
CAT Result date is January 9, 2017. Candidates can check their results on official website. Post result declaration each IIM will release their separate cut- offs. On the basis of cut off, candidates will be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview rounds.

CAT 2016 Cut off
After the results are declared, each IIM will declare a separate cut off list for shortlisting candidates for the selection procedure. The cut off comprises of an overall cut off and asectional cut off. Sectional cut off is the percentile a candidate must score in eachsection of the test paper. CAT 2015 Cut off
The CAT 2016 question paper is deemed to be tougher than previous year paper. CAT experts and various coaching institutes have speculated that CAT 2016 cutoff will be along the similar lines as last year. The CAT cutoff in 2015 for all the old IIMs ranged between 96-99+ percentile for general category candidates. The cutoff was slightly lower for reserved category candidates. CAT 2016 Selection Procedure
After the declaration of results and cut- offs, shortlisted candidates appear in the selection process which is held separately by each of the IIMs. The selection procedure through CAT EXAM may consist of a Group Discussion and/or Written Ability Test round and, Personal Interview. Personal Interview is also an important part of the selection procedure and can prove to be a decisive factor in selection to IIMs. The final selection is based on performance in CAT and selection procedure rounds.
Written Ability Test comprises of one or more topics on which a candidate is required to write a brief essay. The time duration assigned to write essay on the given topic varies from IIM to IIM and can be anywhere between 15 minutes to 45 minutes.
Group Discussion round is less preferred these days but it is wise to prepare for this round as well. In this round, a group of 8-10 candidates is given a topic to discuss. Through this round, a candidate’s performance and group dynamics are assessed.
Personal Interview round is the final round. In this round, a candidate has to appear before a panel of 4-8 interviewers who test the candidate on their academic background, work experience, hobbies, interests etc.

What is CAT?
- Common Admission Test or CAT is only entrance exam for admision in MBA and PGDM programs in Institute of Management (IIMs) in India.
- 20 IIMs and More than 136 Management Institutes participate in CAT.
- CAT is open for all graduates having more than 50% in graduation.
- Duration of CAT exam is 180 minutes and consists 100 questions.

CAT 2016 Exam Analysis
Most of the test takers found CAT 2016 a bit difficult from previous years. Candidates also reported some technical glitches in the exam. According to CAT exam pattern 3 marks is awarded for every correct answer. 1 mark is deducted for a wrong attempt. However, in exam it was mentioned that for every correct answer candidates will be given 1 mark and 0.33 mark will be dedudcted for a wrong attempt.

CAT 2016 Admit Card
Admit Card for CAT 2016 exam has been available for download on CAT official website since October 24, 2016. Candidates can download their CAT 2016 Admit Card by logging into their candidate’s profile using their registration number and password created at the time of registration.
CAT admit card will have personal details of a candidate and details related to the exam date such as test venue, session. It is a provisional document and must be supported at the test center with a valid photo id issued by Govt of India.

CAT 2016 Syllabus
CAT exam consists of three sections namely Verbal and Reading Comprehension, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Ability. Each section is further divided into multitude of topics. The topics covered in each section for CAT exam is detailed below:

CAT 2016 Exam Pattern
CAT is a computer-based test which consists of three sections, i.e. Quantitative Ability, Verbal and Reading Comprehension, and Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning. CAT exam is a 3 hour duration exam where one hour is assigned for each section. The paper will have 100 questions of both MCQ and Non-MCQ nature. For every correct answer, a candidate will be awarded 3 marks and 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer. CAT 2016 Preparation Strategy
For late starters, it is time to get deep buried in your books and for the candidates still looking for new chapters this is time to start solving mock papers. It is very important for Candidates to categorize the preparation strategy and find below the five points for the CAT Study Plan.
- Brush Up Your Basics : In the pursuit of cracking CAT, it is very important to reading basics of Venn Diagrams, Data Interpretation, Number Systems, Time and Work Reading News Papers and Gramatical Skills.
- Follow the Study Material or Standard Text Books for CAT : It is preferred to close on single reference books for Quant, Verbal Ability and Data Interpretation and Many Mock papers and Question banks. Find the Suggested Books at the bottom of this section.
- Mock Test :Do attend the mock papers couple of times from different institutes.
- Relax and indulge in recreational activities : Most importantly dont convert yourself into book zombie rather make a balance between leisure life and studies. For the working candidates it is a bit difficult to cope up between studies and work and adding up leisure will make things messy. But as we know slow and steady wins the race.
- Adhere to a Time-table: No question about it, be strict with your schedule but your time table should also include cheat days. Dont be too harsh on your self.
CAT 2016 Eligibility
In order to be eligible for CAT 2016, an aspirant must be a graduate degree holder in any stream. Candidates appearing in the final year/semester of their degree program can also apply for CAT 2016. CAT 2016 Application Process
With the onset of another season for MBA admissions, CAT 2016 applications opened on August 8, 2016. A candidate could apply for CAT 2016 through the CAT official website. The application process was mainly a four-step process.
- Registration on CAT 2016 website.
- Application form filling. This included filling personal details, contact information, academic details, work experience, program preference, and exam center preference.
- Uploading scanned copies of documents such as Photograph, Signature, Category certificate, and disability certificate.
- Payment of application fee.
This year, IIM Bangalore has also allowed candidates with backlog or supplementary to appear in the CAT 2016 exam.

CAT 2016 Participating Colleges
CAT is conducted mainly for admission to PGDm programs offered at 20 IIMs. Apart from IIMs, other top management institutes like FMS, MDI, NTIE, SP Jain, Department of Management Studies at IITs, Manipal University, ITM Delhi, Chandigarh University and over 115 management B-schools also accept CAT score as a qualifying criteria for their management programs. The cut off percentile for IIMs and other top institutes may be above 90 percentile.

CAT 2016 Exam Centers
Candidates are required to provide an exam center preference while registering for CAT 2016. Candidates can provide a preferance for upto 4 test cities and on the basis of this they will be alloted their CAT Exam Centers. The time slot for CAT Examination is generally alloted randomly.
The CAT Exam centers are available in all the major cities across India to accomodate the growing number of test-takers. Along with the admit card, candidates are required to carry a government approved identification proof such as Pan Card, Voter ID, Aadhar Card etc.
This year there has been an addition of three new exam centers, that is, Udaipur in Rajasthan, Khanna and Phagwara in Punjab. Also two exam centers namely Bishnupur in West Bengal and Purnea in Bihar have been removed from the list.
CAT 2016 Reservation
All the 20 IIMs follow reservation policy laid out by the government of India. The reserved categories in CAT Exam as described in the official notification are mentioned below in the table. In case of seats reserved for PwD or DA candidates, following is the definition of disability as described in the Section 39 of PwD Act of 1995.
- Candidates with low-vision blindness
- Candidates with hearing impairment
- Candidates with loco-motor disability/ cerebral palsy
Candidates who suffer from these disabilities to the extent of not less than 40%, are eligible for reservation under this category. There is a predefined norm for the percentage of seats for the reserved categories. The table given below describes the percentage of seats reserved for each category.

Required Documents for Reserved Categories
Candidates who apply under the reserved categories must upload the scanned copy of the following certificates at the time of form filling. On selection for Personal interview and admission, a candidate is required to produce a photocopy and original of these certificate before the assigned authority. Certificate as a medical proof to their claim must be produced whenever necessary.
