CAT 2017 Exam Dates and Application form
CAT or Common Admission Test is conducted for MBA/PGDM Admissions in IIMs and top B-schools of India. It is organized every year by IIMs on rotational basis. IIM Calcutta is the conducting authority for CAT 2017. The official notification for CAT 2017 is expected to be announced in the month of July-2017. Graduates in any discipline with minimum 50% (45% for Reserved category) marks are eligble to apply.
The CAT Exam is scheduled in the month of December. There is no change in the CAT Exam Pattern and questions will most likely be distributed among 3 sections: Verbal Reasoning (34), Quantitative Ability (34) and Data Interpretation (32). CAT syllabus is based upon fundamentals of 10+2 curriculum. So it is imperative to go through NCERT books for the chapters mentioned CAT 2017 Syllabus.
CAT Result will be announced in the month of January-2018. Once the result is declared, candidates can start applying to colleges as per the Cutoff. 20 IIMs and over 150 top private and public colleges accept CAT score for admission to MBA and PGDM programmes.
Selection process of IIMs and top MBA colleges usually starts within 15 days of result declaration. Selected candidates will appear for Group Discussion and Personal Interview. CAT Cutoff 2017 will give you a fair idea of score required to get into top B-Schools of India.

What is CAT?
- Common Admission Test or CAT is the only entrance exam for admision in MBA and PGDM programs in Institute of Management (IIMs) in India.
- 20 IIMs and more than 136 management Institutes participate in CAT.
- Open to all graduates having more than 50% in graduation.
- Duration of CAT exam is 180 minutes and consists 100 questions.
- CAT 2017 will be conducted in December.
- Candidates need to apply for all the IIMs seperately.
- Admission into IIMs is based upon CAT Score Card, 10th Marks, 12th Marks and a Group Discussion and Personal Interview round conducted at respective IIMs.

CAT 2017 Eligibility Criteria
In order to be eligible for CAT 2017, an aspirant must be a graduate degree holder in any stream. Candidates appearing in the final year/semester of their degree program can also apply for CAT 2017. They should have also scored the required percentage in their graduation degree. The category-wise percentage requirement for CAT 2017 is explained in the table below:

CAT 2017 Application Process
CAT 2017 Application forms will be available in the month of August. Intersted candidates can apply online on iimcat.ac.in. The application process is usually a four-step process.
- Registration on CAT 2017 official website.
- Filing up of Application form that includes entering personal details, contact information, academic details, work experience, program preference and exam center preference.
- Uploading scanned copies of documents such as Photograph, Signature, Category certificate and disability certificate.

CAT 2017 Participating Colleges
CAT is conducted mainly for admission to MBA/PGDM programs offered at 20 IIMs. Apart from IIMs, other top management institutes like FMS, MDI, NTIE, SP Jain, Department of Management Studies at IITs, Manipal University, ITM Delhi, Chandigarh University and over 115 management B-schools also accept CAT score as a qualifying criteria for their management programs. The cut off percentile for IIMs and other top institutes may be above 90 percentile.

CAT 2017 Exam Centers
Candidates are required to provide an exam center preference while registering for CAT 2017. Candidates can provide a preferance for upto 4 test cities and on the basis of this they will be alloted their CAT Exam Centers. The time slot for CAT Examination is generally alloted randomly.
The CAT Exam centers are available in all the major cities across India to accomodate the growing number of test-takers. Along with the admit card, candidates are required to carry a government approved identification proof such as Pan Card, Voter ID, Aadhar Card etc.
Last year, there has been an addition of three new exam centers namely Udaipur in Rajasthan, Khanna and Phagwara in Punjab. Also two exam centers namely Bishnupur in West Bengal and Purnea in Bihar have been removed from the list.
CAT 2017 Reservation
All the 20 IIMs follow reservation policy laid out by the government of India. The reserved categories in CAT Exam as described in the official notification are mentioned below in the table. In case of seats reserved for PwD or DA candidates, following is the definition of disability as described in the Section 39 of PwD Act of 1995.
- Candidates with low-vision blindness
- Candidates with hearing impairment
- Candidates with loco-motor disability/ cerebral palsy
Candidates who suffer from these disabilities to the extent of not less than 40%, are eligible for reservation under this category. There is a predefined norm for the percentage of seats for the reserved categories. The table given below describes the percentage of seats reserved for each category.

Required Documents for Reserved Categories
Candidates who apply under the reserved categories must upload the scanned copy of the following certificates at the time of filling the form. On selection for Personal Interview and admission, a candidate is required to produce a photocopy and original of these certificate before the assigned authority.
CAT 2017 Admit Card
Admit Card for CAT 2017 exam will be available on CAT official website in the month of October. Candidates can download their CAT 2017 Admit Card by logging into their candidate’s profile using their registration number and password created at the time of registration.
CAT admit card will have personal details of a candidate and details related to the exam date such as test venue, session. It is a provisional document and must be supported at the test center with a valid photo id issued by Govt of India.

CAT 2017 Exam Pattern
CAT is a computer-based test which consists of three sections, i.e. Quantitative Ability, Verbal and Reading Comprehension, and Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning. CAT exam is a 3 hour duration exam where one hour is assigned for each section. The paper will have 100 questions of both MCQ and Non-MCQ nature. For every correct answer, a candidate will be awarded 3 marks and 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer. - Brush Up Your Basics : In the pursuit of cracking CAT, it is very important to reading basics of Venn Diagrams, Data Interpretation, Number Systems, Time and Work Reading News Papers and Gramatical Skills.
- Follow the Study Material or Standard Text Books for CAT : It is preferred to close on single reference books for Quant, Verbal Ability and Data Interpretation and Many Mock papers and Question banks. Find the Suggested Books at the bottom of this section.
- Mock Test :Do attend the mock papers couple of times from different institutes.
- Relax and indulge in recreational activities : Most importantly dont convert yourself into book zombie rather make a balance between leisure life and studies. For the working candidates it is a bit difficult to cope up between studies and work and adding up leisure will make things messy. But as we know slow and steady wins the race.
- Adhere to a Time-table: No question about it, be strict with your schedule but your time table should also include cheat days. Dont be too harsh on your self.
CAT 2017 Syllabus
CAT exam consists of three sections namely Verbal and Reading Comprehension, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Ability. Each section is further divided into multitude of topics. The topics covered in each section for CAT exam is detailed below:

What is CAT 2017 Result date?
CAT Results will be declared in the month of January 2018. Candidates can check their results on the official website. Post result declaration each IIM will release their separate cut- offs. On the basis of cut off, candidates will be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview rounds.

CAT 2017 Cut off
After the results are declared, each IIM will declare a separate cut off list for shortlisting candidates for the selection procedure. The cut off comprises of an overall cut off and asectional cut off. Sectional cut off is the percentile a candidate must score in eachsection of the test paper. CAT 2017 Selection Procedure
After the declaration of results and cut- offs, shortlisted candidates appear in the selection process which is held separately by each of the IIMs. The selection procedure through CAT EXAM may consist of a Group Discussion and/or Written Ability Test round and, Personal Interview. In recent years, IIMs have been known to prefer Written Ability Test over Group Discussion. Check GD/PI tips for CAT 2017
Personal Interview is also an important part of the selection procedure and can prove to be a decisive factor in selection to IIMs. The final selection is based on performance in CAT and selection procedure rounds.
Written Ability Test comprises of one or more topics on which a candidate is required to write a brief essay. The time duration assigned to write essay on the given topic varies from IIM to IIM and can be anywhere between 15 minutes to 45 minutes.
Group Discussion round is less preferred these days but it is wise to prepare for this round as well. In this round, a group of 8-10 candidates is given a topic to discuss. Through this round, a candidate’s performance and group dynamics are assessed.
Personal Interview round is the final round. In this round, a candidate has to appear before a panel of 4-8 interviewers who test the candidate on their academic background, work experience, hobbies, interests etc.
