BITSAT Exam Pattern 2017 is defined by BITS Pilani, conducting body of the online based exam. Candidates seeking admission in various 1st year engineering degree programs can appear for the exam. Through this exam admission to BITS Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad is granted.

BITS Exam Pattern will help candidates understand various important elements related to the entrance exam viz. nature of questions, marking scheme, subject-wise marks distribution, total number of questions, etc. BITS Pilani (Birla Institute of Technology) has scheduled the entrance exam from May 16 to May 30, 2017. It will be held across 51 exam centers across India and Dubai. BITSAT 2017 Application Form concluded on March 06, 2017. The online slot booking for BITSAT 2017 has commenced and is until April 5, 2017. 

BITSAT 2017 is conducted in Online mode (CBT- Computer Based Test). The questions in the exam are objective type in nature and are asked from Physics, Chemistry, English and Mathematics. Each correct answer carries 3 marks and one mark is deducted for an incorrect answer. There will be a total of 150 questions. The following article talks about the BITSAT Exam Pattern for this year. BITSAT 2017 Exam Dates

BITSAT 2017 will be conducted over a window of 14 days from May 16,  2017 till May 30, 2017. It is important for the aspirants to start preparing for the most competative engineering exam on time. The following table indicates important dates around the exam.

BITSAT 2017 Exam Pattern

BITS Pilani every year designs the exam pattern forBITSAT. It is one of the most competitive entrance test across India. The time duration of the online based exam is 3 hours (180 minutes). The questions will be asked from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English. The questions will be objective type in nature. The medium of the exam is English only. 

There will be 4 sections in the exam. These sections will evaluate the candidate’s aptitude and knowledge about the subjects. Mentioned below are the sections in BITSAT 2017:-

  • Physics,
  • Chemistry and
  • Mathematics/Biology and
  • English (English Proficiency and Logical Reasoning)

Question distribution

The total number of questions in the question paper is 150. They are divided into four sections. There is no particular time limit set for any section. During the test, the candidate can, at any point of time, go back to the previous question and change the answer. While there is an option to skip a question, the computer will not allow the candidate to choose more than one option as correct answer. The subject and number of questions in BITSAT are as divided as follows:

There is no time limit for individual sections of the test. A candidate can go back and change any of his/ her answer among the 150 questions. If a candidate answers all the 150 questions without skipping any question, then they will have an option of attempting 12 extra questions, if there is still any time left. These questions will be from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English only (4 questions from each section). But, candidates opting for extra questions, then he/ she will not be allowed to go back to those 150 questions for any corrections. These 12 questions will act as an added bonus to the candidates.

BITSAT Marking scheme

BITS has defined a marking scheme for the exam of BITSAT. BITSAT Marking Scheme for the entrance exam is as follows:

  • For every correct answer, a candidate will be awarded 3 marks.
  • There is a provision of negative marking as well. For every incorrect or wrong answer there is a penalty of 1 mark (-1 mark).
  • If a candidate leaves a question i.e. he/ she does not attempt a question then 0 marks will be awarded.

Important Points in BITSAT 2017 Exam Pattern

  • Candidate needs to produce their BITSAT Hall Ticket at the time of examination. 
  • As the exam will be conducted in an Online mode, hence candidates should be familiar with basics. They should know the use of mouse, keywords etc. 
  • Also, the instructions in the BITSAT will be in English language, hence candidates must be proficient in English.
  • The questions in the BITSAT 2017 are generated from a large question bank which is prepared by the expert committee. The questions are chosen randomly for each candidate.
  • Candidates are advised to bring a pen with them for the purpose of rough work and signing the attendance sheet.
  • Candidates are informed that blank sheets will be provided for the purpose of rough work, if required.
  • Use of electronic devices like calculators and logarithmic tables are not allowed in the BITSAT test centers.
  • Candidates are not allowed to bring any other personal belongings such as mobiles, books or notes etc.
