AIPMT 2016 Eligibility

The NEET 2016 is a written exam conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education to avail admissions to medical/dental colleges participating in admissions held through this examination. The examination is scheduled on the July 24, 2016. The eligibility for AIPMT/NEET is entirely provisional and the candidate fulfilling the same will be liable to participate in the examination. The criteria considered while specifying the eligibility are age limit, educational criteria, the eligibility for seats under the control of participating States/Universities/Institutions/ AFMC.

Candidate applying for the NEET 2016 must qualify the necessary eligibility criteria for appearing in exam. According to the CBSE candidate must be in 12th class or qualified the 12th examination with Biology/ Biotechnology, Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects. He must be at least 17 years old on December 31, 2016. Candidate from general category must have at least 50% (PCB) in qualifying examination where as 40% marks is minimum requirement for SC/ST candidates and For PwD candidate it is 45% marks.

1. Eligibility Criteria for 15% All India Quota Seats

The candidate applying for the NEET exam for getting admission into various govt. colleges in various state should have these basic eligibility cleared for the exam.

  • Students should be citizen of India.
  • They must be at least 17 years of age or completed by December 31, 2016
  • Candidates belonging to general category should have upper age limit of 25 years as on December 31, 2016
  • 5 years relaxation is given in case of SC/ST/OBC students. They must be born between 01/01/1987 and 01/01/2000.
  • Students from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Jammu and Kashmir are not entitled to the reservation of 15% All India quota seats because these states have opted out for this.

Note:

  • Candidates from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Jammu & Kashmir states are required to upload self-declaration form which shall be automatically generated and printed with the confirmation page if they claim eligibility.
  • If these students forgot to upload this scanned form then their application form will not be processed and the candidature shall be cancelled.
  • Also, if their self-declaration form is found to be false after verification then also their admission will be cancelled.
  • Students from these states can appear for exam for getting enrolled in AFMC, Pune if they fulfill eligibility conditions

2. Academic Qualifications

  • Candidate must have passed higher secondary level examination from a recognized university or board after twelve years of study with physics, chemistry and biology as main subjects at 10+2 level
  • Minimum percentage of marks required to fulfill the eligibility for the examination is 50% for general category candidates and 40% for SC/ST/OBC students.
  • For candidates with physical disability require to fulfill the minimum requirement 45% as his/her aggregate percentage, if they are from general category whereas 40% if they belong to SC/ST/OBC.
  • Students who are appearing for 12th examination or any other equivalent examination can also apply provided they will clear this qualifying paper at the time of admission.
  • If candidate has cleared B.Sc. examination with not less than two subjects out of physics, chemistry and biology can also appear for AIPMT exam provided that he meet 10+2 level eligibility criteria.

3. Eligibility for Seats Under Participating States/Universities/Institutions Or AFMC

  • Students should have Indian nationality.
  • They must be at least 17 years of age or completed by December 31, 2015
  • Overseas citizens of India (OCI) can also give the exam for getting admission in seats under participating states and universities subject to certain criteria
  • Upper age limit required by candidates for the admission in seats under these states and universities will be as per their rules and  regulations

4. Qualification & Qualifying Examination Codes

These codes are required for filling your qualification into your AIPMT application form in qualifying examination phase.

CODE 01: A candidate who is appearing in the qualifying examination, i.e., 12th Standard in 2016 whose result is awaited, may apply and take up the said test but he/she shall not be eligible for admission to the MBBS or BDS, if he/she does not pass the qualifying examination with the required pass percentage of marks at the time of first round of Counselling.

CODE 02: The Higher/Senior Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination which is equivalent to 10+2 Higher/Senior Secondary Examination after a period of 12 years study, the last two years of such study comprising of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology (which shall include practical tests in these subjects) and Mathematics or any other elective subject with English at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training after introduction of the 10+2+3 educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on Education.

NOTE: where the course content is not as prescribed for 10+2 education structure of the National Committee, the candidates will have to undergo a period of one year pre - professional training before admission to the Medical Colleges.

CODE 03: The Intermediate/Pre-degree Examination in Science of an Indian University/Board or other recognized examining body with Physics, Chemistry, Biology /Bio-technology (which shall include practical test in these subjects) and also English as a compulsory subject.

CODE 04: The Pre-professional/Pre-medical Examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology & English after passing either the Higher Secondary Examination or the Pre-University or an equivalent examination. The Pre professional/Pre-medical examination shall include practical test in these subjects and also English as a compulsory subject.

CODE 05: The first year of the three years’ degree course of a recognized University with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology including practical tests in these subjects provided the examination is a University Examination and candidate has passed the earlier qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology with English at a level not less than a core course.

CODE 06: B.Sc. Examination of an Indian University provided that he/she has passed the B.Sc. Examination with not less than two of the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology)/Bio-technology and further that he/ she has passed the earlier qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.

CODE 07: Any other examination which in scope and standard (Last 02 years of 10+2 Study comprising of Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology; Which shall include practical test in these subjects) is found to be equivalent to the Intermediate Science Examination of an Indian University/Board, taking Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology including practical tests in each of these subjects and English. Provided that to be eligible for competitive entrance examination, candidate must have passed any of the qualifying examinations as enumerated above or appearing in the qualifying examination in 2016. Provided also that to be eligible for competitive Entrance Test the candidate must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology at the qualifying examination as mentioned in clause (2) of regulation 4 on Graduate Medical Education 1997 and in addition must have come in the merit list of All India Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Entrance Test (AIPMT)for admission to MBBS/BDS courses.

5. Reservation Criteria

The examination eligibility is defined with one such criteria of reservation which helps the candidates to avail certain facilities corresponding to the admission procedure of the examination as well as the seat allocation. The candidates are required to fulfill the following segregated reservation criteria and norms to avail the facilities. The mode of implementation of reservation shall be available on the official website of DGHS i.e. www.mohfw.nic.in

5.1.1 Reservation In Government Medical Colleges Under 15% All India Quota

The criteria followed for the reservation can be broadly diversified in terms of the category; one belongs to:

  • Scheduled Castes- 15%
  • Scheduled Tribes- 7.5%
  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) - 27%
  • Physically Handicapped Candidates- 3%

The candidates availing the reservation under the category distribution have to fulfill the following to verify their eligibility for the same:

  • The candidates shall be eligible for the reservation under the OBC Non-Creamy Layer only if their caste is mentioned in the Central List of OBC.
  • If the candidates fail to find their cast in the list then they shall mention their category as OBC only.
  • If the candidates belonging to the OBC Creamy Layer category are unable to find their caste in the Central List of OBC then they must mention their caste as General for the same.
  • The candidates availing the reservation under the locomotor disabilities must have lost 50%-70% lower limbs movement to be eligible for the seat reservation under this category.
  • If in case the reserved seats under this quota remain unfilled then the candidates with lower limb disability of 40%-50% are considered  for the reservation before they are included in the seats of respective category as per Certificate of Locomotor Disability.
  • The candidates who find themselves eligible for the reservation under physically disabled category then they must get themselves examined for their disability at a Government Medical College/District Hospital/Government Hospital. The candidates availing this reservation are required to produce Disability Certificate from any one of the following disability assessment boards mentioned below:

6. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

1. What is the minimum and maximum age for appearing in the AIPMT 2016 for 15% All India Quota Seats?

Ans. The age-limit criteria for eligibility of the candidate for the examination under the 15% All India Quota Seats are as follows:

  • A candidate who have completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission or will complete the age on or before 31st December of the year of his/her admission to the 1st year MBBS/BDS Course and is a citizen of India.
  • The upper age limit for candidates seeking admission under 15% All India Quota Seats is 25 years as on 31st December of the year of the entrance examination. Further provided that this upper age limit shall be relaxed by a period of 5 (five) years for the candidates of Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes/Other Backward Classes. Candidate must born on or between

(a) 01/01/86 to 01/01/99 (SC/ST/OBC Category)

(b) 01/01/91 to 01/01/99 (Other Category)

2. What is the eligibility for seats under the control of participating States/Universities/Institutions and AFMC?

Ans. The guidelines for the eligibility of seats under the control of participating States/Universities/Institutions and AFMC are as follows:

  • A candidate who have  completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission or will complete the age on or before 31st December of the year of his/her admission to the 1st year MBBS/BDS Course and is an INDIAN NATIONAL.
  • Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) may also appear in AIPMT for admission in seats under the control of participating States/Universities/Institutions subject to rules and regulations of the Government of India, respective State Governments and the University/Institution concerned. OCI candidates may verify eligibility norms of participating States/Universities/Institutions before applying for AIPMT 2016

3. Is candidate from Andhra Pradesh, J&K and Telangana studying in Mumbai and Domicile of Maharashtra eligible for 15% All India Quota seats?

Ans. Yes, if in case the candidate is not eligible to seek admission to MBBS/BDS seats in Medical/Dental Colleges in the State of Andhra Pradesh, J&K and Telangana.  The candidate is also required to submit a self-declaration to this effect that he/she is not domicile of Andhra Pradesh, J&K and Telangna according to a certain format which is mentioned in Appendix-II of Information Bulletin.

4. Is a candidate passed class XII with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English subjects from NIOS, eligible to appear for AIPMT?

Ans. Yes, any candidate who has passed class XII examination with an aggregate of 50% marks in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Bio-Technology) and also passed English in the Qualifying Examination from any recognized Board/University can appear in the AIPMT subject to other conditions.

5. If a student studied up to class 11th from CBSE Board from KSA/abroad and class XII from CBSE School in India, will he/she be eligible to appear in AIPMT?

Ans. Yes. All Indian Nationals are eligible to appear in the AIPMT for 15% All India Quota Seats.

6. Is it compulsory to take Mathematics if I want to appear in AIPMT?

Ans. It is not necessary to offer Mathematics to appear in AIPMT. The subjects required to be eligible for the examination are Biology/ Biotechnology, Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects.  

7. Candidate passed 12th class in the subjects of English, Hindi, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physical education and appeared/appearing for Biology subject from another Board will be eligible for AIPMT?

Ans. No. Any examination equivalent to class XII examination of a recognized Board/University comprising of Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology including practical test in these subjects and English is only eligible to appear in AIPMT.

8. Can a candidate, appearing in Class XII in the year 2016, is eligible to appear in AIPMT 2016?

Ans. Yes. Any candidate appearing class XII in the year 2016 or any other equivalent examination is eligible for the AIPMT 2016.

9. What are All-India quota seats?

Ans. No. Any examination equivalent to class XII examination of a recognized Board/University comprising of Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology including practical test in these subjects and English is only eligible to appear in AIPMT.

10. If the candidate fills in correct qualification code, will he/she be considered non-eligible for the examination?

Ans. Yes. The candidate is eligible for the examination since the state code or qualification code does not affect the eligibility of the candidate.
